“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” — 2 Timothy 1:7

In Sacramento, we see courage in the way refugees and immigrants begin again and keep moving forward. Trusting the Spirit who empowers us with love and steady purpose, we walk alongside our newest neighbors.

Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. We are deeply grateful for their sacrifice and the freedoms we are able to enjoy.

At World Relief Sacramento, we’re also mindful that many of the refugee and immigrant families we serve are seeking the same safety, peace, and opportunity. On this day of remembrance, we honor sacrifice, give thanks with full hearts, and continue our work of welcoming our newest neighbors with compassion and dignity.

"Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you." – Psalm 55:22

At World Relief Sacramento, we are reminded that even in moments of uncertainty and sorrow, we are supported by a faithful presence that strengthens and sustains us. We hold close our shared call to compassion and stand in solidarity with our neighbors near and far, choosing care in the face of hardship. For refugee and immigrant neighbors across Sacramento, stepping into a new beginning can carry both hope and challenge, yet it is also marked by courage and resilience. As a community, we are called to walk alongside one another with empathy, offering encouragement and a deep sense of belonging so that no one has to face their journey alone. Together, we continue building a Sacramento where all are welcomed, where strength is shared, and where hope grows stronger through love and unity.

Our hearts are heavy as we grieve alongside the San Diego community. World Relief Southern California’s San Diego office was in close proximity to the heartbreaking attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego, a trusted partner in welcoming and serving newly arrived Muslim refugee and immigrant families.

Here in Sacramento, we know many refugee, immigrant, and Muslim families are feeling fearful and unsettled. To our neighbors and community members, we want you to know you are valued, welcomed, and not alone.

World Relief Sacramento stands in solidarity with our San Diego colleagues, the Islamic Center, Imam Taha, and the broader Muslim community during this painful time. We condemn this act of violence and remain committed to compassion, dignity, peace, and belonging for all.

We are praying for San Diego, for healing, and for every individual and family impacted.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18
