BWU Sacramento

BWU Sacramento Mission:
Black Women United is an inclusive, non-profit organization dedicated to the education, empowerment, and advancement of ALL Black women.

Black Womxn United is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the education, empowerment, and advancement of Black womxn. Black Womxn United started in 2017 by three courageous black women: Imani Mitchell, Autumn Asters, and Elika Bernard. From that first meeting held we created the first-ever black womxn’s march. And from that conceptual idea came Black Womxn United. Because of the massi

ve response of need, it became more than we could have ever imagined. We are so glad we stood our ground on centering Black womxn. Since then, BWU has reached hundreds of thousands and lifted up the voices of Black womxn around the globe. After a month of quick planning and hard work, they created an unprecedented event: the first Black Womxn's March in Sacramento, California. Visit our website to learn more and stay up to date with Black Womxn United. Vision:
We envision a community where ALL Black womxn and girls are equipped to lead and have equity in well-being, education and economic empowerment. Values:
Equity
Excellence
Integrity
Collaboration
Accountability

Via “The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying an unidentified adult female.

On Jan. 25, 2026, the decedent died at Sutter Medical Center due to natural causes. A few days earlier, during her admission, she expressed that she was unable to provide her name. She has a specific medical condition that would be familiar to her family and friends, she stated she has an allergy to blueberries, and she wore eyeglasses because of vision impairment. Fingerprint analysis yielded no results.

The decedent is a black/African American adult female who claimed to be 39 years old. The estimated age range is from 25 to 40 years. The decedent is approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 149 pounds. She has medium-length black hair styled in light brown/reddish dreadlocks, and her eyes are brown in color. The condition of the decedent’s teeth is very good. She has numerous tattoos, including a sailor’s wheel on her left torso, located below and to the left of her left breast, “smile now, cry later” theatre masks on her right shoulder/back area, and a very distinctive tattoo near her right eye that resembles a sun (or star) with a moon beneath it.

Please see the attached sketch of the unidentified female. If you have any information to the identity of this person, please contact the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office at 916-874-9320 or via email at [email protected].

FYI.. This image is a combination of human generated sketch, real photos of the decedent post-mortem and collected by Ai to create the most accurate version of the decedent, looking alive. We use this technique when we have real life images of the decedent, but do not want to release pictures of them post-mortem.”

We’ve gained an ancestor. Assata Shakur, born JoAnne Chesimard, remains one of the most enduring symbols of Black resistance in the United States. A member of the Black Panther Party and later the Black Liberation Army, she was targeted by COINTELPRO and convicted in the death of a New Jersey state trooper under circumstances that many still call unjust.

In 1979, with the help of allies, she escaped prison and fled to Cuba, where she was granted political asylum. She lived there in exile for more than three decades, raising her daughter and continuing her work as a writer, teacher, and revolutionary voice for freedom.

Her words are chanted at liberation movements all over America:

“It is our duty to fight for our freedom.
It is our duty to win.
We must love each other and support each other.
We have nothing to lose but our chains.”

Assata’s life and legacy remind us that the struggle for Black liberation is not bound by borders, nor by time.
