From the Railyards for All Rally: "The Railyards development is set to double the size of Downtown Sacramento with thousands of low-wage jobs and 10,000 new housing units, but just 6% is required to be affordable housing and 94% can be luxury units. City Council plans to give away $222 million in taxpayer money to the developers, Republic and Downtown Railyard Ventures, and a key vote is coming up on October 27th. A majority of Railyards residents voted down the subsidy plan last year, but City Hall has brought it back with all the residents cut out in an effort to silence them. Join workers & residents at the rally to demand community benefits in the Railyards deal— 25% affordable housing, an anti-displacement fund, a grocery store, and living wage jobs!"

Our upcoming panel, Building Affordable Housing in a Changing Climate: Risk, Resilience, Equity, and Community Stability, will explore how California's affordable housing challenges increasingly intersect with climate risks, from wildfire and rising insurance costs to extreme heat and growing utility burdens for residents.

Hear from experts in housing development and design, insurance, wildfire safety, and policy about the challenges and opportunities for building housing that is both affordable and resilient. Panelists will discuss construction innovations, insurance incentives, policy approaches, and equity considerations as communities work to meet the urgent need for affordable housing in a changing climate.

Join us for It Takes a Team: Using an Innovative Approach to Keep Homelessness Families Housed, Stable, and Thriving in Permanent Supportive Housing, a panel discussion exploring how strong partnerships can create lasting outcomes for families transitioning out of homelessness.

This conversation will highlight how affordable housing developers, local governments, service providers, school districts, homeless shelters, and Continuums of Care worked together to develop a flexible referral process that helped families successfully transition into permanent supportive housing while remaining connected to their schools and communities.

Join us for "A New Day in Affordable Housing: Streamlining Approvals, Financing, and Cross-Agency Coordination" at our upcoming Sacramento Regional Affordable Housing Summit.

California is undergoing a major transformation in how it finances affordable housing. With the launch of the California Housing and Homelessness Agency (CHHA) and Housing Development and Finance Committee (HDFC), along with new budget tools supporting the state’s first one-stop financing system, California is working toward a more consolidated and streamlined approach to delivering affordable housing.

As Secretary, Tomiquia Moss serves in a key leadership role guiding California’s statewide efforts to address housing affordability and homelessness. She oversees five state entities responsible for expanding and preserving affordable housing, advancing homeownership opportunities, protecting civil rights, and working to prevent and end homelessness across California.

With more than 20 years of leadership experience across the public and nonprofit sectors, Secretary Moss brings a wealth of experience and a statewide perspective to some of California’s most pressing housing challenges.

SHA is honored to stand alongside a broad coalition of housing advocates, community leaders, and partners in support of Proposition 1. We extend our gratitude to Housing California for its leadership in bringing together organizations committed to addressing California's housing challenges.

If approved, Proposition 1 would invest $11.25 billion in the development and preservation of affordable housing, including pathways to homeownership. This measure represents an important opportunity to expand housing access and help ensure that everyone has a dignified, affordable place to call home.
