Please join us for our free 3-part webinar series for Western States Simulation Alliance faculty and subscribers featuring Dr. Jasline Moreno, PhD, RN, CNE, CHSE-A. This summer series explores the use of Objective Structured Teaching Encounters (OSTEs) to strengthen facilitator competence, reflective practice, equitable evaluation, and workforce readiness within simulation-based education.

Through interactive discussion and practical implementation strategies, participants will examine how OSTEs can support competency-based educator development, psychologically safe learning environments, structured feedback processes, and mitigation of implicit bias in learner evaluation and facilitation practices.

Session 2
Designing and Implementing OSTEs: Structure, Logistics, and Lessons Learned

Wednesday, August 26 | 12:00 – 1:00 PST

Description:
This session focuses on the practical design and implementation of OSTEs across healthcare education settings. Participants will explore the core components of OSTEs, including standardized scenarios, standardized learners, evaluator preparation, competency-based assessment tools, and structured formative feedback processes. The
session will discuss logistical considerations related to virtual and in person OSTEs, scheduling, evaluator calibration, psychological safety, and participant preparation.

Examples and lessons learned from a statewide virtual OSTE pilot initiative will be shared, including strategies used to support facilitator reflection, standardized evaluation, and meaningful feedback conversations. Participants will leave with practical considerations and implementation strategies that may be adapted within their own educational environments.
