Sacramento Brony Meet Up was established in January 2012 at the Sacramento Anime Convention (SacAnime) with Tara Strong (the voice of main character Twilight Sparkle from the cartoon ‘My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic’ among many other various voices for various cartoons, video games and projects) as the special guest at the event. The group came to be after organizing a large meet up at the con

vention to not only meet Strong, but to meet each other and establish new friendships with other fans of the cartoon. From that weekend of the convention, Sacramento Brony Meet Up solidified into its own independent organization that continued to hold meet ups for the show’s fans (‘bronies’—combining the terms ‘bro’ and ‘ponies’, with ‘bro’ not being gender-specific). As the cartoon began to grow into a pop-culture phenonminom (earning such a huge following that it has made its way as an anticipated attraction to San Diego Comic Con), so did SBMU. SBMU continued to hold meet ups at SacAnime and also went on to other conventions such as the Sacramento Comic Book and Toy Convention (SacCon) and University of California: Davis’s Anime Convention (DaiCon) and have branched off further into other meet ups such as bowling, theme parks, and much much more. Along with meet ups, SBMU hosts various MLP panels at conventions and have occupied vendors’ halls and artists’ alley at conventions as well—selling MLP-themed items such as buttons, artwork, stickers, etc. Active in the Sacramento brony community, SBMU has taken it upon themselves to create and host a MLP convention at Sacramento State University—the first brony convention in its area that will be taking place on September 14th and 15th. The convention is called ‘Sacramento Brony Expo’ and plans to focus on the local community and its talents and provide fun for all ages. Those wishing to contact SBMU can do so with the following:
