In honor and loving memory of Brian Tha Saechao, the Iu-Mien Student Conference (IMSC) Committee has created the Iu-Mien Student Conference Hero Artist Scholarship Award. Brian was a former IMSC Chairperson, a tireless community leader, and a very skilled artist. He worked with the Iu-Mien Senior Social Group and loved to draw. In addition, he was the editor, director, and producer of the first and only IMSC movie. Years ago, he had hopes of one day creating an art scholarship for worthy Iu-Mien students. Today, we hope that this scholarship fulfills his dream and preserves his endearing memory, legacy, and spirit forever.

IMSC understands that everyone will not excel scholastically and may embody talents elsewhere. This scholarship emphasizes the student’s artistic talents and interest first and foremost. However, IMSC also considers the individual’s conscience about the community. Iu- Mien high school seniors who are active in the community and possess skills in the vast, diverse arts and entertainment field are encouraged to apply for the Hero Artist Scholarship.

Award Amount: Depending on recipient pool, at least one scholarship will be awarded, minimum $500.

Download the Application at http://bit.ly/IMSC20_heroartist and apply by Friday June 7, 2019.

The Health Scholarship is an academic scholarship award established by a former IMSC participant. With the aging population and the lack of understanding of Western medicine among many Iu Mien elders, it is crucial to have Iu Mien individuals be represented in the health field to provide a voice for the Iu Mien community and to bridge the gap between traditional and Western medicine. The Health Scholarship was implemented to support Iu Mien students pursuing a career in the health field.

Iu Mien high school seniors and college undergraduates who are interested in a career in the health field, active in the community, and have taken on leadership roles are encouraged to apply.

Award Amount: $500-$1000
(1) Undergraduate and at least (2) high school seniors.
