PART 3: Are the basic needs of the LGBTQ community being met?

As the Sacramento community gathered together for Pride, participants shared the realities of their material conditions. Housing, healthcare, food, transportation are all costs that have risen and are continuing to hurt all of the working class. These are all basic rights that we deserve but are increasing while our wages stay the same.

We understand that without changing our economic system to meet the needs of the people, our country will continue to produce billionaires and trillionaires and further oppress us all. We reject the tactics of the ruling class to divide us and instead will fight for liberation together!

PART 1

This past Pride weekend, the PSL had the opportunity to interview Sacramento parade participants to get the tea on the current state of our local LGBTQ community's material conditions โ€” from housing and healthcare access to workplace safety and community support.

Stay tuned for Part 2.

Whether you are an ally or you're in the LGBTQ community, we'd love to hear from you in the comments!

Why do you show up during Pride?

๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆEvery June, millions of people look forward to Pride Month as a time to celebrate LGBTQ people for who they are. But Pride was not always a mainstream celebration; it was fought for!

The roots of Pride are in resistance โ€” people standing up against discrimination, police harassment, and laws that targeted LGBTQ people.

Today, after years of hard-won progress, LGBTQ people, especially transgender people, have become targets of a new wave of attacks from politicians and right-wing organizations. These attacks arenโ€™t just about one community โ€” theyโ€™re part of a broader effort to divide ordinary people so that we blame each other for the issues we face, instead of the billionaires who are the real cause!

The LGBTQ movement has won important victories over the years not because powerful people suddenly decided to do the right thing, but because ordinary people organized, protested, and fought back. Every major right, from workplace protections to marriage equality, was won through collective action. Pride is both a time to celebrate and to remember that lesson of history! PRIDE MEANS FIGHT BACK!

At Pride this year, Sacramento PSL marched in solidarity with Palestine because no one is free unless we are all free!

Thank you to all the volunteers that showed up to support, and to all the people cheering in solidarity and for Palestine! We understand how Pinkwashing and Rainbow Capitalism has deep ties with *Brand Israel* and their genocidal project. We make a commitment to stand with all oppressed and occupied people of the world, this includes Palestine, Congo and Sudan.

As long as society is divided into a class of exploiters and exploited, oppressors and oppressed, bigotry will always be promoted by capitalists who seek to grow and maintain their power.

Solidarity, inclusion, and respect are on the opposite end of this manipulative system of rule by the billionaire class. Socialism means removing the billionaire class from power and replacing it with the rule of the people.

When we fight together, we win! ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฉ

Did you know that 57,000 people in Sacramento are projected to lose their food security? Meanwhile, President Trump said that he loves inflation. Just to be clear - inflation rose 4.2% in the last year - and all around the cost of our basic needs has risen.

Gasoline at 40.5%
Energy at +17.9%
Housing at +3.3%
Transportation at 4.3%
Car Insurance 6.1%
Rent 2.9%

While the self proclaimed, "Peace" President and his administration starts war on other countries in the world, people living in the United States have to deal with the Trump Administrations' war on the working class. On top of this and the administration has gutted social safety nets like SNAP programs... we need a socialist reconstruction, more than ever.

We need a new system! Get involved in the fight back at www.pslweb.org/action
