National Association of Wine Retailers

National Association of Wine Retailers Founded in 2006, NAWR is a national association of progressive wine retailers, Internet wine stores, wine clubs, wine auction houses and affiliated business.

NAWR lobbies, litigates and educates in an effort to change protectionist laws preventing wine stores and wine lovers from transacting business with one another, while protecting the pocket books of special interests. NAWR opposes restrictive and protectionist state laws through legislation, litigation, and industry education. The Association provides its members with benefits that help it succeed in a modern retail landscape.

The following NAWR press release concerns the recently passed California legislation allowing distillers in and outside of California to ship spirits to California consumers.

This is an advance in consumer access to legal products.

However, NAWR regrets the protectionist-inspired opposition to this legislation by the middleman wholesalers, whose fear-mongering, thankfully, failed.

Excellent article in the Wine Spectator about the controversy over the coming Dietary Guidelines and the effort by the Prohibitionist Lobby to demonize the process.

The recent U.S. Dietary Guidelines fight shows that when research shows balanced, moderate wine consumption can be healthy, anti-alcohol advocates drown it out

NAWR stands with all the producers and importers who have been abused and diminished by the Three-Tier System. We will continue to stand against economic discrimination and protectionist laws that harm suppliers, retailers, and consumers.

Fine wine retailers everywhere are supporting COME OVER OCTOBER. Encouraging people to come together around a bottle of wine and fine food is as important as ever.

Our mission is to encourage people to invite family and friends, new and old, to come together during the month of October to share some wine.

"If the reporting is correct that the Trump administration is moving away from an anti-business and anti-science approach to alcohol consumption, then this is a very good thing," said Tom Wark, executive director of the National Association of Wine Retailers....The best and most responsible message the US Dietary Guidelines can offer is to drink in moderation, just as it has for decades. Wine retailers are the canaries in the coal mine when irresponsible government pronouncements meant to kill off industries are issued. Everyone benefits if this administration takes the responsible path and advocates for moderation."
