PCFFA is supportive of NOAA's push to improve American seafood competitiveness, and we're working and engaged across the areas that impact California's commercial fishing fleet, including salmon, crab, groundfish, cooperative research, monitoring, regulatory reform, and financial relief opportunities. We will continue working to ensure the fleet has a voice in all of those arenas.

Of course, addressing Dungeness crab entanglement risk and West Coast humpback whale status are among our top priorities. PCFFA continues to advocate for a status review of the Central America humpback whale distinct population segment and for all management actions that reduce commercial fishing access to be based on best available science, not worst-case assumptions.

We thank Eugenio Piñeiro Soler and NOAA Fisheries for hearing our concerns and for today's announcement. This is a good first step. PCFFA will stay engaged to ensure this directive moves forward and delivers real results for the working fleet, and will keep our members and partners updated as this process unfolds.

The Commercial Salmon Season is official!!

The Pacific Fishery Management Council sets the 2026 commercial salmon seasons for California. After three years of closure, limited fishing opportunity returns as PCFFA continues work to improve future seasons.
