Ascend Program

Ascend Program Helping individuals reach their potential. In contrast, Ascend directs participants to actively change their lifestyles.

Many programs currently available to criminal offenders, either as an alternative to jail or as a condition of probation or incarceration, only offer passive instruction. Disengagement is common in programs that permit offenders to passively receive information in a classroom setting and/or to respond in writing to a long series of questions. Under the guidance of the program, participants begin k

eeping a schedule, managing their finances, ensuring that their home environment supports a legal lifestyle, and many other actual practices of leading a successful life. The experienced instructors inspire participants to build self-esteem and shift their life paths toward personal responsibility and fulfillment. The creators of Ascend (program directors Christine Morse and Toni White) designed the program utilizing two main sources – their personal experience in successfully helping their defendant-clients avoid re-offending, and the prevailing research on successful programs that lower recidivism.

'An International Embarrassment'. This is what Democratic Presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders calls our prison system. He talks about how China, a country with four times the population of the United States, has fewer people in prison than do we. (note - this is not a political endorsement - but sharing of a clearly elocuted statement about the state of our system and race issues)
