China’s “one child policy” was dreamed up by rocket scientists (really!) and never field tested in a few counties, as recommended. It began in 1979-80. It has had profound and negative impacts on China’s economic, social and psychological/emotional fabric. This stoppage is not a surprise as adoptions, mostly of special needs children, have been dwindling since before the pandemic.
If you or your family has been formed by, or touched by adoption from China, feel free to share your thoughts.
Beijing said the move was in line with international trends, as more countries have limited such adoptions. Many would-be adoptive families were left in limbo.
