: SACRAMENTO RIVER WHALE UPDATE: A humpback whale has made an extremely rare journey roughly 60 miles inland, traveling from San Francisco Bay into the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta near Rio Vista. 🐋

The whale, nicknamed “Rio,” is known to researchers and has been documented along California and Mexico over the past 24 years. Experts are actively monitoring Rio and say it’s still unclear why the whale traveled this far inland.

Officials are asking everyone to keep at least 100 yards away and allow the whale to navigate on its own.

This isn’t the first time Sacramento has seen something like this, Humphrey the Humpback famously made a similar journey into the region in 1985. 🌊

: It’s been a wild LAST 24 HOURS in Sacramento.

• Fatal shooting reported on Howe Avenue
• Driver killed in law-enforcement shooting following a pursuit near Hwy 50 & Hazel Ave
• Shooting investigation underway on Plaza Avenue
• Man hospitalized after being shot on Bercut Drive
• Two robbery suspects arrested after allegedly fleeing the scene on a SacRT bus
• Separate fatal crash investigated near Hazel Ave & Folsom Blvd HWY50

Several of these incidents remain under investigation and details may change as authorities release additional information.
