Sac City Queer Straight Alliance

Sac City Queer Straight Alliance Sac City QSA is a group for all q***r students and straight allies at Sacramento City College Everybody is welcome. :)

The Q***r-Straight Alliance at Sacramento City College is a safe environment for LGBTQ students and their allies to come hang out, socialize, and make new friends. We meet every Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 1pm at Rodda North 264. During the semester we also plan many outside activities including movie nights and end of the semester trips.

Thursday's QSA meeting will be at 12-12:45 pm in PAC109. Signs will be posted if we have to relocate (once again).

There will be an informal QSA meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 12-12:45 pm in PAC 109. It is to determine whether there is enough interest in a regular Wednesday meeting. If there is not enough student interest (based on attendance by those who cannot meet on Thursday), there will only be a Thursday meeting.

URGENT AND CRITICAL
QSA is in desperate need of a qualified student to sign on as club Treasurer. The previous Treasurer did not meet club requirements so the club charter is now pending until a new signature is obtained. You will have little to no duties (I promise) so there is no risk on your part. This needs to be taken care of ASAP so we can get chartered, get a permanent room assignment and have a table at the upcoming club day.

I am willing to meet you on campus on Tuesday (Feb. 16) at a convenient time and place such as after or before one of your classes. I cannot meet between 11am and 1 pm due to a previous engagement. I have class at 6-9 pm so I am unavailable at that time also. I can also meet you in midtown Sacramento if that is more convenient than on campus. Send me a private message if you are able to help out.

The next QSA meeting will be on Thursday, February 11 at 12-12:50 pm in room PAC 109. This is still a temporary meeting room.

The charter paper work has been submitted so a permanent meeting room will be forthcoming.

A trial Wednesday meeting will be scheduled the following week to gauge interest and attendance. If the outcome is the same as last semester (i.e., only 1-2 students and sometimes no students showing up), there will only be the Thursday meeting each week.

Meeting flyers will be put up around campus on Tuesday.

Not enough student signatures were gathered last week so QSA cannot be chartered as a club with the college yet. Five more signatures are needed.

I will be in room PAC 109 from 12-12:45 pm on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. If you have not signed the charter paperwork, please stop by and do it. We can have an informal meeting, but the main goal is to get student signatures.

This week is the last chance! If there are not enough signatures obtained, there will not be a QSA this semester. Seriously. Not kidding.

Thanks to Erick, Isaac, Felicia, Aaron and Michelle for signing the charter. The rest of you need to show and sign.

You can catch up with me before my 6 pm class on Tuesday in PAC 109 if that is a better time for you.

First QSA Meeting of the Spring Semester.....

The first QSA meeting is on Thursday, January 28 a 12:30 pm in room PAC 109. This is a temporary room and time.

It is important to get as many interested students there as possible on Thursday. Bring a friend if you can. The first and most important order of business is to get 10 student signatures on the charter form before we will be assigned a permanent room. Two of these signatures need to be from the QSA President and Treasure so volunteers will be needed until a formal vote is taken. It would be a temporary position if you want it to be, but we got to follow the rules and have a President and Treasure in place before the club can be chartered and a room assigned.

Last semester the Monday meeting was poorly attended and on more than several occasions no one beside me showed up. For the time being there will only be a Thursday meeting until I hear from enough students who will regularly attend a Monday or Wednesday meeting. I am not on campus either day and I make a special trip for the meeting so I want to make the effort worthwhile.

The LGBT Panel is tonight! Come join a great talk about what puts the fab in q***r. The panel is at 6:00 p.m. in RN-229 (down the hall from our QSA meetings.) If you want to join, I'll treat for dinner at Sushi Cafe, 5:00 p.m. sharp. This has always been a fun and insightful conversation. The class is a Human Sexuality class, mostly straight/cis younger folks.

The end of the school year QSA trip is to Santa Cruz trip on May 21. There must be enough QSA members and other SCC students committing to go by turning in trip forms or the trip will not happen. The go or no-go decision is coming up really fast so get those forms turned in. If there are not enough bodies going, the trip would unfortunately be cancelled. Last year's San Francisco trip was a lot of fun so it would be a shame not to have a trip this year. These types of outings are as much about strengthening friendships and making new friends as what you are doing or where you are going.
