🍎 Tackling Food Insecurity in Solano County 🍒

Solano County faces a food insecurity crisis, with over 63,000 residents lacking reliable access to nutritious food. In response, Catholic Charities Yolo-Solano has launched the Free Little Pantry Project, designed to provide food and essentials to neighbors in need through a "take what you need, leave what you can" model. 🥫🌱

These small, community-based pantry boxes don’t just increase access to healthy food; they reduce waste and bring people together. Built with the support of local schools, community groups, and the Fairfield-Suisun Adult School Carpentry Program, this project is truly by the community, for the community.

Our Catholic Charities of California team had the honor of visiting the Diocese of Santa Rosa’s Caritas Center—a national model for holistic homeless care. Caritas is more than a shelter; it’s a safe space for those healing from trauma. We saw firsthand how their integrated approach, featuring an on-site health clinic, the Nightingale facility for those recovering post-hospitalization, and a Head Start program for young residents, is transforming lives.

We are inspired by the Diocese’s compassionate leadership and remain committed to sharing these innovative solutions across the state.
