Join us for the next installment of the Summit Watch Party series, revisiting an important conversation from the 2026 Summit “Building Economic Justice & Power,” moderated by Trevor Parham and featuring Nwamaka Agbo, Ash Hanson, and Nu Goteh,

This conversation examines the economic realities facing artists and cultural workers and asks us to think more expansively about ownership, resources, economic power, and the systems needed for artists and communities to thrive.

Because we were unable to hold a live Q&A following this panel at the Summit, our virtual watch party gives us another opportunity to engage with the conversation, hear additional reflections, and connect with others across California who are thinking about these same questions. Americans for the Arts has shared some encouraging news from Washington regarding arts and culture. The U.S. Senate has passed a Continuing Resolution that will maintain current federal funding through December 11. This provides temporary stability for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

Additionally, this measure will temporarily halt proposed changes to federal grant rules that have raised concerns among nonprofits and federal arts grantees. Americans for the Arts was among the organizations advocating against these potential changes. However, the work is not yet finished. The House and Senate still need to reach an agreement, and Congress is continuing negotiations over fiscal year 2027 funding.

Here’s how you can get involved: August recess is a great time to contact your members of Congress, invite them to visit your organization or attend an arts event, and show them firsthand what federal investment in arts and culture means to our communities.

In this moment of increased violence and attacks (financial, legal, physical, institutional, and beyond) on our communities, it is crucial for our coalitions, community organizers, and leaders to connect, build trust, practice skills, and share vision together. The Greater Bay Area Arts Coalition (GBAC) is building on the work everyone is doing to better align and define solidarity practices with each other, and to practice them!

GBAC envisions centering an agenda on collective care, trust-building, advocacy skill-building training, and practice.
