Sacramento Sheriff's Posse

Sacramento Sheriff's Posse The Sacramento Sheriff's Posse are three volunteer equestrian drill teams that performs at community events and competes in Northern California.
(14)

The Posse was organized in 1937, to augment the sheriff’s department in case of emergency. The basic purpose of the posse then was to provide a mounted group capable of riding broken levees during flood times and doing rescue work in areas impassable to motor vehicles. From 1938 to 1941, when the group was deactivated because of World War II, the posse was a parade unit. In 1945 the group reorgani

zed and again began participating in parades. Today they proudly represent Mother Against Drunk Drivers, MADD and the city and county of Sacramento by appearing in parades and performing at various locations throughout California and its neighboring states. Members of the posse, Sacramento County business and professional men and women, pay all expenses incurred by the group. Although the posse stands ready to assist the sheriff’s office at any time, tax money is not used to support the group. The hours of practice required to reach their level of performance , and days away from their professions, are all donated in the interest of drawing positive attention to law enforcement, horsemanship and responsible alcohol consumption. Our drill teams have a wide variety of riders of all levels. We represent a large age group (currently we have several mother/daughter drill members) that come together to share the love of the drill. We are very fortunate to be able to offer three drill teams, ensuring that there is a team for everyone!

- Sacramento Sheriff’s Posse – An all palomino team representing the original roots of the posse. All riders are required to carry flags.

- Sacramento Sheriff’s 9-1-1 – All members of our 9-1-1 team are required to carry flags before joining. This team represents horses of any colors.

- Men In Black – New to drill riders who are not required to carry flags in competition. These riders represent all levels of riding abilities. This group provides a great opportunity for those new to drill to learn the drill maneuvers without the added distraction of carrying flags. Joining a competitive drill team requires a large amount of time to be dedicated to practices, parades, and performances. We are always looking for individuals excited to learn about the thrill of the drill! If you would like more information on joining our group, message us and we would be happy to get you more information!
