First Step Communities - Sacramento Winter Sanctuary

First Step Communities - Sacramento Winter Sanctuary The Winter Sanctuary Program is a seasonal emergency shelter program supported by Sacramento County and in partnership with the local faith-based community

11/09/2019

Sacramento County has cancelled the Winter Sanctuary Program. And moved, along with Sacramento City, to turn two shelters into 24-hour x 365 days/year shelters with rehousing case management services.

More later if information is available.

We applaud the Sacramento County and City congregations that gave so much, for so long to the program and the County DHA that sponsored their program. Many lives were changed and saved by this program.

The new programs should provide even help for homeless individuals with planned program expansion of hours and services.

We had an excellent turnout for the Winter Sanctuary’s- Winter Provisions Day event. We were joined by Christina Preston of Shoes4Sacramento, who brought a large selection of shoes supported by Grant Mulligan of Reconciliation Singers Voices for Peace; and Claire Bannerman and Kara from The Provisions Project. We were also supported by Steve Arnold and volunteers from River Life Covenant Church. Special thanks to our Homeless Leadership Team members who helped the guests through the process.
