Founded by a private practice physician in 1972, the Union of American Physicians and Dentists has grown into the largest union representing fully-licensed doctors in the United States. Care was at the heart of today’s strike 🩺💙 Care for our patients who entrust us with their health. Care for the families and communities who rely on LifeLong’s services. And, last but not least, care for the clinicians who show up every day to care for the East Bay ✊

Our providers went on strike because they believe in upholding the standard of care and improving the conditions in which they’re able to deliver it. When workloads become unsustainable, it doesn’t just affect the provider—it affects the care patients receive.

To everyone who stood alongside our providers at LifeLong Medical Care today: thank you 💙 Our picket line was filled with determination, solidarity, community, and a lot of heart because of you. Going on strike was not a decision our providers made lightly. No clinician wants to step away from their patients or be anywhere other than caring for the people who count on them. But sometimes, caring means speaking up when the conditions needed to provide quality care aren’t being addressed.

More than 160 doctors, NPs, PAs, and other providers are going on strike this Monday, September 28 📣 After months of negotiations, LIfeLong's stall tactics and lack of urgency at the bargaining table have left us no choice but to take action. Our contract expires this Sunday, September 27, and we're ready to stand together for the care our patients deserve.

To care for the East Bay, we need properly staffed clinics and workload protections that let us provide quality care. This is about standing up for our patients, our profession, and our community 💙

Yesterday, providers at LifeLong Medical Care spent their lunch break picketing at six health centers across the East Bay to make their voices heard. Thank you to every provider and ally who showed up 💙 Patients across Alameda and Contra Costa counties deserve the highest quality care and providers deserve a contract that protects the time, resources, staffing, and working conditions they need to deliver it.

For months, our providers at LifeLong Medical Care have brought proposals to the bargaining table in good faith to address their working conditions. What we're asking for isn't unreasonable: transparency around patient panel sizes, safe staffing ratios, and protection of our professional judgment so we can give our patients the quality care they deserve.

Communities benefit when providers have the time, support and resources to care for patients. But if workloads continue to grow without the proper support, wait times can increase while visit times decrease, and burnout can push experienced providers to their limits—and ultimately out of the clinics and communities they serve.

That’s why we’re coming together this Wednesday. Because better working conditions aren’t just about the people who provide care, it’s about protecting continuity of care, access to essential healthcare services, and maintaining that high standard of care that patients across the East Bay deserve ✊
