Every day, these clinicians help guide cancer patients through some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Now, they're coming together to ensure that they have a voice in the decisions that shape patient care. From staffing and workloads to transparency, workplace equity, and the future of cancer care. We’ve said it before and we'll keep saying it until every healthcare system hears us: those closest to patient care deserve a seat at the table ✊

Every patient who walks through our doors deserves to be seen—fully, wholly, exactly as they are. LGBTQIA+ patients face higher rates of delayed care, misdiagnosis, and avoidance of medical settings often because they've learned that healthcare spaces aren't always safe spaces. This Pride Month, we commit to being the exception. Affirming care saves lives. 🏳️‍🌈

We are deeply disappointed and concerned over the decision to end UB's oral surgery residency. This is a setback not only for academic training, but for public health in Western New York.

For patients in the region who need timely access to highly specialized care, this will mean fewer local options, longer wait times, and in many cases, the burden of traveling farther to receive treatment. The disruption to an already strained system will be felt most by those with complex and urgent health needs.

Investing in healthcare education and medical training is an investment in community health. If these programs like this are discontinued, patients ultimately face reduced access, diminished capacity across the system, and a weakened pipeline of future providers who might have chosen to stay and serve the area.

The University at Buffalo is closing its oral and maxillofacial surgery residency program at the end of this academic year, an abrupt decision that startled those in the industry across the country.

When the largest healthcare system in Arizona punishes a physician for doing her job, it doesn't just affect the physician. It affects their patients, their coworkers, and everyone at the organization. It sends a message that if you dare speak up, there will be consequences.

That's not healthcare. That's intimidation.

After Banner Health told Dr. Lea to not return to her clinic, she pushed back. Not just for herself, but for her patients. To finish patient notes, fulfill prescription orders, and complete her administrative duties to ensure that her patients wouldn’t be left without support.

Because being a physician is not just a job. It’s the relationships built over years of care, trust, and showing up for patients even when the system makes it difficult. But there is only so much a person can take from an employer that retaliates against those who speak up.

That’s why Dr. Lea filed a federal charge against Banner Health. To hold them accountable—not just for herself, but to make sure no other provider has to go through what she experienced.
