So you wanna be a podcast host? Now’s your chance.

The California Society of Anesthesiologists is launching its first Podcast Host Contest, and we’re looking for new voices to join Vital Times, CSA’s podcast hosted by Dr. Ludwig Lin and Dr. Rita Agarwal.

Who can enter:
• Anesthesiology residents and fellows at California programs
• Medical students at California medical schools with an interest in anesthesiology
• Any year or subspecialty track
No podcasting experience is required. We want to hear your ideas, your perspective, and your voice.

How to enter (by November 9):
A 2–5 minute audio or video file — introduce yourself or talk about a topic in anesthesiology that interests you. It doesn’t need to be polished.
A 250–500 word written statement — why hosting interests you, topics you’d explore, and who you’d want to interview.

The winner will host a published episode of Vital Times, receive mentorship from Dr. Lin and Dr. Agarwal, and be recognized in the CSA Newsletter, on the CSA website, and at the CSA Annual Meeting.

October is Health Literacy Month.

Safe anesthesia care depends on patients and families understanding what they are agreeing to — and what to do before and after surgery. That includes NPO instructions, consent, pain plans, and when to call for help.

Clear language is a patient-safety tool. CSA encourages anesthesiologists to use plain words, teach-back, interpreters when needed, and materials families can actually use. Physician-led care includes making sure the message lands.

When patients understand, they are safer.
