Sunday Assembly Sacramento The Sunday Assembly is a secular congregation that celebrates life. Our events are free for all to attend, though donations are appreciated.

Our events on the second Sunday of each month are generally 75 minutes filled with music (80s and 90s pop hits), inspirational talks, poetry and art, donuts and coffee, and more... followed by a potluck! We are radically inclusive - everyone is welcome, regardless of their beliefs (or lack thereof), their sexual orientation, their age, gender, or politics. We do not accept sponsorships. Childcare is provided. Our Motto: To live better, help often, and wonder more.

Dinner and a Show

Join the Sunday Assembly Community for Dinner followed by a performance of the Sacramento Pop Choir.

We will meet for dinner at 6:00 at Hop Gardens Neighborhood Tap Room in Curtis Park, offering wood-fired pizza and craft beers in a family-friendly atmosphere.

Then we'll navigate a 5 minute drive to a performance of the Sacramento Pop Choir at 7:30 at C.K. McClatchy High School.
We will enjoy a live concert with 300 singers and a full rock band, celebrating our favorite animated musicals, at the beautiful McClatchy High School Theater in Land Park.

This is a family friendly event ! Children over two need their own tickets. Children under 2 do not need a ticket and are expected to sit on a parent's lap.

California Freethought Day 2026

California Freethought Day combines the fun and atmosphere of a fair with the education and activism of a conference. It's a festival of freethought.

Our theme this year is “In Facts We Trust: Misinformation and Media Literacy” as we highlight the vital role that reliable information, critical thinking, and media literacy play in a healthy, democratic society.

Join us at our free event to celebrate freedom of speech and thought, civic engagement, enthusiasm for science, social justice, and the separation of church and state.

Our event will be outdoors at the California State Capitol Building and livestreamed via Facebook and YouTube.

From California Freethought Day:
On Saturday, September 19th, we have a great opportunity to join with other local secular groups and do some environmental work that benefits our community. Join the secular community, statewide, as we clean our lakes, beaches, rivers, and parks through California's Coastal Cleanup program. After the cleanup, California Freethought Day has a treat for us: they are offering a $15 per person (with limitations) reimbursement for brunch! We can all gather to eat and chat after all that work!

Sunday Assembly Sacramento is participating and folks from other groups, such as Black Humanists and Non-Believers, Atheists and Other Freethinkers, and Reason Center will join us. We will gather at the Reason Center at 8:30 am and walk over or carpool to the Ethan Way River Access adjacent to Cal Expo to get the introduction at 9:00 am.

You may register on Meetup, but if it is confusing just come on the 19th and sign the waiver there. Please also RSVP to this event on Meetup so we know how many to expect. See below for items to bring for safety and comfort.

# # Bat Talk & Tour Logistics

The Bat Talk and Tour includes an educational presentation with live ambassador bats, a tour of the wildlife area, and a viewing of the amazing bat colony “flyout”.

See live bats – native species that live in the Sacramento Valley
Enjoy a family friendly PowerPoint about bat natural history
Join the caravan out to the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area for a brief tour of the wetlands and rice fields
Finally get in position to watch the flyout of the largest urban colony of Mexican free-tailed bats in California. The bats emerge in long ribbons as they head out to hunt for insects for the night.
The whole experience takes about three hours. This is a family friendly event! There is a small amount of walking. Those in wheelchairs or unable to walk may view the bats by car. Please let us know if you have special needs. Bat Talk and Tour events begin late-June and run through September.

Our next Sunday Assembly Sacramento speaker (on September 13, 2026 @11:00 AM) will be Scott Burdette.

Scott is a forester with the U.S. Forest Service and currently serves as Vice Chair and Acting Chair of the Sacramento-Tahoe Chapter of the Society of American Foresters. Since 2009, he has worked across the western United States, including Colorado, Washington, Idaho, Oregon, and California, in a wide range of forestry and fire management roles.

His professional experience spans fuels management, wildland fire suppression as a Hotshot firefighter, timber management, forest inventory and reconnaissance, wood and biomass utilization, and silviculture. This diverse background has provided firsthand exposure to the ecological and operational realities of forest management.
Scott earned a Master of Science in Forestry from Cal Poly Humboldt(formerly Humboldt State University). His interests include forest resilience and health, wildfire risk reduction, prescribed and cultural burning, historical forest conditions, post-disturbance restoration, human and climatic influences on forest ecosystems, wildlife habitat, and the role of forests in carbon management.

Mark your calendars for Sunday July 12th!

Our Speaker is from Muttville Senior Dog Rescue. Sunday Assembly is a non-religious congregation that meets once a month to share our stories, create community, and learn from our experiences. We are inclusive and everyone is valued here.

Sunday Assembly Sacramento is held in the Reason Center at 1300 Ethan Way, Suite 675 toward the back of the building. As always, families are welcome. The doors open at 10:30 am and the program will begin at 11:00 am.

Angela Di Martino is the Community Engagement Senior Manager at
MUTTVILLE Senior Dog Rescue in San Francisco, CA. In this role, she manages all actvities in the Seniors for Seniors Program, including Cuddle Clubs, Humane Education programs and community outreach events. She started volunteering at Muttville in 2013 at Cuddle Club, and continued volunteering as an adoption counselor and outreach event leader, until joining Muttville as a full-time staff member in 2022. Along with other degrees, she holds an MA in Integrated Health Studies, and her master’s thesis explored the social and physical health benefits of seniors volunteering with animals.

MUTTVILLE’S VISION: “We envision educating and inspiring the world to love and care for senior dogs until every dog has a loving forever home”.
We reach out to senior dogs at risk, give them the care they need, and find them loving forever homes. If we had our way, no dog would spend their last days in a shelter. There is so much love and joy in these dogs!

Our program includes a speaker, some community announcements, and a potluck. Please bring a dish to share unless you are a newcomer. Donuts and coffee are provided. Hope to see you there!

Nick Gray is the volunteer Outreach Lead for Camp Omni, a secular sleepaway summer camp for youths aged 8-17. He is a member of Sunday Assembly Sacramento, a board member of California Freethought Day, an organizer for Capital Science Communicators, and the Deputy Director of Programs for the Water Education Foundation.
