🌳 Tree Cheers for Ventura Tree Alliance Ventura, CA! 🌟

We're excited to celebrate our California Arbor Week grantee, Ventura Tree Alliance, for their incredible tree-planting efforts—generously supported by Southern California Edison (SCE) / Edison International.

🚀 Making an Impact:
Ventura Tree Alliance (VTA), an all-volunteer nonprofit, used Arbor Week Grant funding to bring trees where they're needed most:
🌿 Lincoln Elementary – With just 4% canopy coverage, students desperately needed shade to improve outdoor learning conditions.
🌲 Arroyo Verde Park – A 129-acre space still recovering from Thomas Fire damage, where shade trees were lost.

💚 Community Coming Together:
🌱 March 12, 2025 – VTA partnered with the City’s Urban Forestry Division to plant 16 trees at Arroyo Verde Park. Despite rainy weather, 22 dedicated volunteers worked to support park sustainability!
🎨 April 11, 2025 – VTA teamed up with Ventura Unified School District to host a Family Picnic & Tree Planting Celebration at Lincoln Elementary! Students and families welcomed 8 new trees—each assigned to a classroom, becoming an interactive part of lessons in science, art, and reading.

These efforts will enhance air quality, provide essential shade, and foster environmental stewardship, ensuring long-term benefits for Ventura’s students, families, and the community.

🌟 A huge thank you to Edison International, CAL FIRE, and the U.S. Forest Service for making our 2025 small grant programs possible!

🌳 Tree Cheers for ECOSLO! 🌳

Congratulations to our Growing Green Communities grantee, Environmental Center of San Luis Obispo, on completing their inspiring tree-planting project—generously sponsored by Pacific Gas and Electric Company.

ECOSLO’s Growing Green Communities tree planting project at Oceano Memorial Park exemplified the power of community collaboration and environmental stewardship. Oceano, an unincorporated community in San Luis Obispo County, faces significant challenges due to limited access to government funding for urban greening initiatives. This has led to a decline in tree canopy, despite the area experiencing some of the county’s highest pollution burdens and poorest air quality. In response, ECOSLO focused its grant-funded efforts on restoring tree cover in Oceano, aiming to provide much-needed shade, improve air quality, and enhance the overall health and resilience of the community.

On March 22, ECOSLO brought together PG&E employees, local volunteers, and key partners—including San Luis Obispo County Parks and Recreation, the Oceano Beach Community Association, Rotary Club of Pismo Beach, and the California Conservation Corps—for a tree planting event at Oceano Memorial Park and Campground. Volunteers not only planted new trees but also planted seeds of community pride and environmental awareness, as residents expressed heartfelt appreciation for the revitalization of their local park.

👏 Huge thanks to PG&E, CAL FIRE, and the U.S. Forest Service for making our 2025 small grant programs possible!

It’s HOT! ☀️🥵 Is Your Tree Thirsty?

💦🌳 Mature Trees (3+ years old):
Deep watering 1-2 times a month in the dry season helps keep them healthy. But needs vary by species, location, weather, and soil type! 🌿 Some native trees, like California oaks, may not need summer watering in non-drought years.

💦🌱 Young Trees (0-3 years old):
These little ones need 5 gallons of water 2-4 times a week to grow strong and stay healthy!

💚💧 Mulch Matters!
Help your tree retain moisture by applying mulch in a donut shape—4 feet in diameter. ✨ Pro Tip: Keep mulch away from the trunk and layer it about 4 inches thick to maximize benefits.
