Sacramento Country Dance Society The Sacramento Country Dance Society sponsors traditional American contra dances and English country dances in the Sacramento area.

Contra dance is an old time community dance where couples face each other in long lines up and down the dance floor and dance with every other couple in the line. Dances are done to live music, usually Celtic reels or jigs. You DO NOT NEED A PARTNER to contra dance. People in the contra dance community are very friendly and w

elcoming and people of all ages, including children participate. Beginners are ALWAYS welcome. YOU DON'T NEED TO KNOW HOW TO DANCE. Free lessons for beginners are offered one-half hour preceding each dance. Steps are easy and focus on patterns rather than fancy footwork. A caller gives cues during the dance alerting dancers to their next moves. Dancing is easy to learn and beginners are ALWAYS WELCOME. Connect here and dance your blues away. Thursday May 7th is the day for our Big Day of Giving campaign 2026. We would greatly appreciate any support and please follow the link to donate to keep our group going. We host English dances on 1st and 3rd Sunday afternoons and Contra Dances 2nd and 4th Saturday evenings. We can only continue our organization with generous donations from the community. Last night April 11th we had a wonderful time at Contra Dance at Coloma Community Center 4623 T Street in Sacramento. This was our 40th Anniversary. What a long and memorable tradition.

Our caller Mark Goodwin and guest caller Chris Oshiro led us on several great Contra dances. We had the special treat having the touring band Raven & Goose (Corwin Zekley and Grace Fellows) as our performers. They did a wonderful job of keeping us all dancing our feet off. Special thanks to sound system management by Ken Britten.

We had cake at the break while we unanimously voted for our continuing slate of board members. Barbara Gebhart, Sue Jones, Claudia Kirkpatrick, Martin Lodahl, Ruth Scodel, Bobbie Watson and David Wright.

Last Sunday April 5th we had a wonderful time at English Country Dance at the Masonic Hall 235 Vernon St in Roseville. This was our 40th Anniversary. What a long and memorable tradition.

Our skilled caller Lise Dyckman led us on several lovely dances while our very talented local band Quite Carried Away played the matching tunes.

I really intended to post this sooner, but got a little bit sidetracked.

We had a great turnout at our 4th Saturday January 24, 2026 Contra Dance. Largest turnout for a regular dance in awhile. I hope to see the newcomers come again.

Caller Sarah Trop had the newbies and the oldies dancing in unison.

Paddy on the Binge (Obin Sturm, Emma Ware, Margaret Graham and Vince Wolfe) kept the dancers hopping.

And Esper Schmidt handled the sound equipment.
