For two powerful days, SEIU California members from across sectors came together—workers who serve and are part of immigrant communities—to build solidarity, strengthen our skills, and prepare to protect the families we serve.

Together, we called on the Legislature to advance critical protections that provide families with resources, keep children safe, and hold public systems accountable. We also built community, shared resources, and strengthened our collective power to stand up for immigrant communities in the face of the Trump administration’s lawless and aggressive attacks on immigrant families.

This is what worker power looks like.

Ten years ago, gig drivers were told they had no path to a union. They didn't take no for an answer and organized like never before. One conversation at a time. In parking lots, in coffee shops, over text and WhatsApp. Across a dozen languages, they fought back.

Their win creates the single largest union of rideshare drivers in the world — and it wouldn't have been possible without the courage of every driver who signed a card, made a call, or brought more and more into the fight. It also wouldn't have happened without the legislative champions in Sacramento who recognized the injustice that drivers faced every single day and fought to give gig drivers a path to organize in the first place.

Dr. Eva Gillis-Buck tragically miscarried during her surgical residency at UCSF. It took a year and a fertility specialist before she finally conceived her daughter, Mila.

What made it possible? A fertility benefit her union Committee of Interns and Residents won at the bargaining table.

Now UC wants to gut it. The $30,000 that covered egg freezing, IVF, adoption, and postpartum care would be slashed.

It's cruel to take this remedy for a devistating occupational hazard. Surgeons face infertility at three times the rate of everyone else, because training consumes their entire reproductive window.

UC can afford to do right by the people who care for us. UCSF Health cleared an $809 MILLION surplus last year.

Thank you, Governor Gavin Newsom! The Fair Share from Big Corporations Act creates a pathway to make the largest corporations pay their share of the health care costs that working Californians are covering for them. That's a $36B bill taxpayers shouldn't carry.

Workers did this. The builds more than $5+ BILLION in new revenue by closing loopholes because and holding corporations accountable - SEIU members from every sector and every corner of the state organized and refused to back down.

But we’re not done. By creating a path to the Fair Share from Big Corporations program, we can finally hold corporations accountable when they shift healthcare costs onto taxpayers.
