👻 You have a few weeks to figure out the costume. We’ll take care of Halloween night. 🎃

Circle Saturday, October 31 on the family calendar because the Southgate Halloween Carnival & Haunted House is coming back to Jose P. Rizal Community Center!

Halloween has a way of becoming one of those nights kids remember. When the costumes they couldn’t wait to wear, the candy bag that somehow got heavier at every stop, and the question every family eventually has to answer:

🧛🏽 Are we going through the Haunted House? 👻

Jose P. Rizal Community Center will be filled with carnival games, a candy walk, arts and crafts, a photo booth, a family-friendly Halloween movie and plenty of Halloween fun close to home.

There will be scares for the brave and a kid-friendly Haunted House option for little ghosts and goblins who prefer things a little less spooky.

It’s another familiar Southgate tradition returning as we keep Growing Forward together this fall.

🏊🏽 Some traditions are passed down. Others are still being created.

After 70 years of Southgate Recreation & Park District, Growing Forward means making room for both.

It means continuing the gatherings families know while finding new ways to turn our parks, pools and community spaces into places memories are made.

At Splashing Pumpkins, a child swimming across the pool to choose a pumpkin may seem like a small moment. But years from now, it might be the October afternoon they still talk about.

That’s how community traditions grow: one family, one memory and one season at a time. The Fall Southgator highlights Splashing Pumpkins as one of the familiar seasonal moments helping create memories close to home!

🍂 The Fall Community Yard Sale returns to Pat O’Brien Community Center on Saturday, October 3, bringing sellers and bargain hunters together for a morning of clearing out, finding something new-to-you, and catching up with neighbors.

Seller registration is $30 for two side-by-side spaces.

It’s a familiar Southgate tradition with a simple idea behind it: clear a little space, pass something along, meet your neighbors, and keep Growing Forward together!

🏷️ You never really know what you’re going to find at a yard sale.

A kitchen item you’ve been meaning to buy. A toy from your childhood. Kids’ clothes with plenty of life left in them. Sports equipment. Books. Holiday decorations. Or something you absolutely did not come looking for, but suddenly you can’t go home without.

That’s half the fun!

🎃 Come for the pumpkin. Stay for the rest of the afternoon.

Splashing Pumpkins takes one of fall’s favorite traditions and gives it a Southgate twist.

Kids ages 12 and under can head into the pool to choose a pumpkin, then decorate it to take home. Around the aquatic center, families can enjoy carnival-style games, Halloween activities, a photo booth, costume fun and more.

Parents, a few important details: children must attend with a parent or guardian, and children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult at all times, including in the water. Weak or non-swimmers should bring a Coast Guard-approved life jacket. 26_Fall_Southgator

🎃 SAVE THE DATE, SOUTHGATE: Halloween Night Has Been Spoken For! And for generations of Southgate families, fall has meant costumes being planned, candy bags waiting by the door and familiar community traditions making their way back onto the family calendar.

Join us Saturday, October 31 for the 2026 Halloween Carnival & Haunted House at Jose P. Rizal Community Center.

Spend the evening playing carnival games, collecting candy, making Halloween crafts, snapping photos and enjoying a family-friendly Halloween movie.

And for anyone feeling brave enough, the Haunted House will be waiting. 👀 There will also be a kid-friendly version for younger visitors who want the Halloween fun without quite as many scares.

As Southgate continues to honor the next chapter after 70 years, Growing Forward means continuing the traditions families have made part of their own stories!

🍂 Fall has a way of making us look around the house and realize just how much stuff has followed us through the year.

Some of it still belongs there. Some of it could probably go.

Fall Community Yard Sale gives you a Saturday morning to turn those unused items into a little extra cash while making room at home for whatever comes next.

And because it all happens together at Pat O’Brien Community Center, your yard sale becomes part of a larger community morning with sellers and shoppers from across South Sacramento.

🎃 The decision is serious. Orange pumpkin? Round pumpkin? The slightly crooked one that somehow becomes the one?

Except at Splashing Pumpkins, your child isn’t choosing from a bin. They’re swimming out to pick their pumpkin from the pool

And that’s only where the fun begins!

After the swim, families can stick around for pumpkin decorating, carnival games, a costume contest and a family photo booth!

Fall has plenty of familiar traditions. We like giving families in South Sacramento a few they won’t find just anywhere.
