🩸 The Friends of Capitol Mansions Neighborhood Association is excited to bring a blood drive to Lavender Heights, on June 7th from 9:30 am - 12:30 pm behind The Depot!

🎟️ All donors will be entered into a raffle to win prizes, including PRIDE tickets and gift cards to local businesses. Bonus entries for first time donors and for scheduling your appointment early!

❣️ Know someone who's wanted to donate blood but thought they weren't eligible? The FDA updated its policy in 2023, and now many LGBTQ+ individuals who couldn't donate before are welcome to give. Screening is now based on individual health, not identity. One donation can save up to 3 lives. See more at www.vitalant.org/eligibilityupdate

The Marshall New Era Community Garden is excited to be hosting a potluck and info session as part of the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) grant we were awarded from the City of Sacramento last year. Master Gardener Jeff Kapellas will explain the basics behind IPM, share tips for summer gardening, and answer any questions we throw at him! We would love to have you join us at the garden for this on Sunday, May 24th at 11am.

Bring a dish to share, a chair (optional, we have some seating), and most importantly... your curiosity! This is the opportunity to find out what's been bugging your garden (get it? 🐛🪲🐞), get some tips before the summer heat kicks in, and meet your neighbors.

In addition to hearing from Jeff Kapellas, there will be a brief tour of the new native plant beds that were installed in the garden over the winter. This too is part of the work funded by the city grant.

Please submit any questions for Jeff ahead of time to Joanna Oseman ([email protected]).

Haven't yet made up your mind on the election?

Join us for a special BPNA Meeting on Wednesday, May 13th at Flower Fist Art Market (1819 E St.) where you'll get to meet the candidates for Sacramento County Board Supervisor (District 1)! Hear from Flo Cofer, Eric Guerra, Deborah Ortiz, and Tim Riley as they each introduce themselves to our community. Let's shoot for a great turnout to show them our involvement and ensure that whichever candidate wins, they'll remember us going forward!

To accommodate the candidates' schedules, the meeting will be moved up to 5:30 pm - 7 pm instead of our usual time. Note that we are also planning to start right on time, so make sure to get there early if you want to hear from each candidate!

The BPNA is partnering with the Sacramento River Cats to bring a unique opportunity to residents. Neighbors who sign up for (or renew) a membership and donate $20 or more in the process will get a pair of tickets to Sacramento River Cats vs. Tacoma Rainiers on Thursday, June 4th (game starts at 6:45 PM). This event supports the River Cats’ Young Professionals Night, bringing together young professionals from across the Sacramento region for an evening of networking and baseball. It is intended to help connect you with others in our organization as well as other involved organizations, and serve as a thank you for helping support the neighborhood. Tickets include a professional headshot and (pending a minimum attendance threshold) a pre-game mixer.

As a reminder, BPNA membership supports the neighborhood by helping us host events like the Block Parties, Spaghetti Dinner, and Neighborhood Mixers, organize cleanups and beautification efforts, coordinate with our city officials and representatives, and produce and print the Park Beat newsletter. Memberships can be per-individual or per-household. If you are already a BPNA member and have paid dues within the previous year, but are interested securing ticket to the June 4th game, please DM us or reach out to us via email and we will gladly work with you to get you to the event.
Upon receiving your membership payment and the required $20 donation, the BPNA will reach out to confirm interest in attending the June 4th mixer and ballgame. Tickets will be relayed on or before June 3rd. There is no threshold for what defines a “Young Professional”, so feel free to use your best judgment.

Because there just isn't enough going on already, we present you with our April board meeting agenda! This one is going to be a fun one, as we get to hear from a number of speakers and chat about one of our most controversial topics (somewhere below parking and above modal filters).
