Assistance League of Sacramento and President Shirley Lessiak welcomed Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office deputies Scott Brom and Chayeng Lor at its September monthly meeting where they discussed strategies in dealing with disruptive customers at the chapter’s Fabulous Finds on Fulton resale shop. They discussed neighborhood challenges, the importance of staying alert while working at the shop, safe ways for volunteers to help, and safe actions to take in the event of a disruption. The deputies answered numerous questions and also provided a detailed handout with information about homelessness and related issues.

Community Against Sexual Harm (CASH), which works to support victims of s*x trafficking, homelessness, addiction, and related issues, recently honored Assistance League of Sacramento’s longtime CASH liaison, Barb Diedesch, as its volunteer of the year. CASH held its successful 2025 gala, “Where Courage Takes Flight,” and several chapter Board members and committee chairs attended.
Through our chapter’s Fresh Start program, we provide housing kits, personal hygiene, diapers, and other essential items to CASH. Chapter President Shirley Lessiak accepted the award from CASH Executive Director Sawan Vaden on Barb’s behalf, as she was unable to attend.

Assistance League of Sacramento recently held its fourth annual members picnic, giving them the opportunity to get to know one another better away from their community work or in our resale shop, Fabulous Finds on Fulton. The weather was perfect and great conversations shared, amid other park guests enjoying the outdoor fun! We look forward to our next member and guest event on October 27 with the Sixth Annual Great Pumpkin Scramble at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex!

Assistance League of Sacramento members recently enjoyed an enjoyable and educational afternoon as they tried out their artistic skills during the annual springtime Paint ‘N’ Sip at North Ridge Country Club. Under the expert tutelage of an experienced artist, guests spent the afternoon brushing up on their painting efforts, enjoying one another’s company, and delicious hors d’oeuvres. We look forward to seeing you next year!
