Did you know the Special District Leadership Academy offers learning opportunities for both first-time and returning attendees?

First-time attendees can complete the full track to qualify for the SDLF Certificate in Special District Governance, while SDLA graduates can join the Returning Attendee Track for two days of breakout sessions on topics such as financial foundations, community engagement, legislative relations, good governance, financial reporting, and working with legal counsel.

📍A week of work at a glance!

🚗💨 From Chowchilla to Fresno to Merced, it was a busy and productive week in the Central Network!

Alongside Chief Finance & Operations Officer Rick Wood, Chief Advocacy & External Affairs Officer Kyle Packham, and Chief Member Services & Communications Officer Cassandra Strawn, Field Coordinator Erasmo Viveros spent the week connecting with district leaders, supporting governance education, and strengthening partnerships across the region.

This week included:
✅ Meeting with the leadership of Bloss Memorial Healthcare District
✅ Hosting the Navigating Governance and Finance in Special Districts workshop at Fresno Irrigation District
✅ Participating in a taping at The Maddy Institute to discuss the vital role special districts play in California communities (more to come!)
✅ Celebrating the Clovis Veterans Memorial District's 80th anniversary and joining community leaders for a speaker series on strategic leadership and organizational effectiveness
✅ Attending the Cal Cities Central Valley Division meeting in Merced

Every meeting, workshop, and conversation helps strengthen the services special districts provide to millions of Californians every day.

Our Central Network Public Affairs Field Coordinator, Erasmo Viveros, had the opportunity to join the Clovis Veterans Memorial District in celebrating 80 years of service to the Clovis community! 🎉

As part of the district’s 80th Anniversary Celebration, speaker series, Dr. Roberts Hopkins shared valuable insights on strategic command, including leadership, decision-making, organizational effectiveness, and long-term planning.

CSDA’s very own President, Lorenzo Rios, who also serves as CEO of the district, continues to help lead CVMD’s commitment to veterans, education, leadership development, and community engagement.

Congratulations to Orange County Water District on earning not one but THREE major honors recognizing its leadership in water infrastructure, public outreach, and groundwater management.

OCWD and its partners were recognized by the American Society of Civil Engineers Orange County Chapter for two PFAS treatment projects, received an Award of Distinction from the California Association of Public Information Officials for the Children’s Water Education Festival, and earned global recognition from Global Water Intelligence as a Distinction Award recipient in the Public Water Agency of the Year category.

These achievements highlight OCWD’s continued commitment to innovation, education, water reliability, and protecting Orange County’s groundwater resources.
