Public school educators in Oakland, California, went on strike Thursday after contract negotiations in which they're seeking higher pay and more efforts to address social concerns failed to yield a deal -- and the strike is set to extend into Friday, the district said.

Fair settlement now! The 2022-2023 school year has been difficult with teacher and administration positions STILL vacant in May! Robla teachers continue to put in extra work to support our students. In the midst of a teacher shortage, Robla teachers have waited 16 months for a fair contract! Taylor teachers were out showing their solidarity Wednesday morning! Robla students, families, and teachers deserve a fair settlement NOW!

Even if this bill doesn’t pass, just the fact this is being proposed should send a clear message to Robla Admin that we are not asking for too much- all we’re asking for is to be paid close to surrounding school districts. We probably should be asking for even more!!

*In addition to also asking for less time spent in meetings, and an evaluation system that almost all Ca districts use.

State Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi has introduced a bill that would boost teacher and school staff salaries by 50% in the coming years, in an effort to close statewide staffing shortages.
