🏆 California Law Education Pathway Award
College of the Sequoias & Amy Vega-Pritchett

Cal LAW Pathways proudly presented the California Law Education Pathway Award to College of the Sequoias and Faculty Champion Amy Vega-Pritchett.

A founding signatory of the 2015 Cal LAW Pathways MOU, Professor Vega-Pritchett has spent 29 years teaching and mentoring students. Under her leadership, more than 60 Pathway students have transferred to four-year universities.

As a Hispanic-Serving Institution located in a county without a four-year university or ABA-accredited law school, College of the Sequoias exemplifies what intentional pathway design can achieve: expanded access, opportunity, and representation.

🎤 Keynote Speaker – 2026 Pathways to Law Summit
We were deeply honored to welcome Sergio Covarrubias Garcia as this year’s keynote speaker.

Born in Michoacán, Mexico, and brought to the United States as a young child, Sergio’s journey is one of resilience, determination, and unwavering belief in justice. From navigating multiple moves between countries to overcoming barriers tied to his immigration status, his path to becoming an attorney was anything but traditional.

After years of persistence, Sergio made history—becoming the first undocumented individual in the United States authorized to practice law after a landmark legal battle with the U.S. Department of Justice.

His story is a powerful reminder that the pursuit of justice often requires courage, sacrifice, and perseverance. Through his keynote, he inspired students to see obstacles not as limits, but as catalysts for change.

Students spent the day inside the courtroom getting a firsthand look at careers in the justice system. ⚖️
Our Day at Court program began at the San Francisco Superior Court with welcome remarks from Kelly Matayoshi, Partner at Farella Braun + Martel, and then attendees heard inspiring remarks from Judge Bobby P. Luna and Brandon Riley, CEO of the San Francisco Superior Court, before heading into courtrooms across the courthouse to observe real court proceedings in action.
After court observations, students walked over to UC Law San Francisco for lunch and an admissions panel featuring law school administrators and current law students who shared insights about applying to law school, navigating the first year, and building a legal career.
The afternoon continued back at the courthouse with engaging panels highlighting different pathways in the legal field—including civil law and criminal law. Students heard directly from judges, attorneys, court professionals, and public servants about their career journeys and the many roles that make the justice system work.
Thank you to the San Francisco Superior Court, Farella Braun + Martel, UC Law San Francisco, and all of the judges, attorneys, and court professionals who made this incredible learning experience possible.
