Local 185 Leadership and members came out to last night’s Rancho Cordova Planning Commission meeting. The commission voted 7-O to move forward with the Cordova Arena Design and Adopt The DOVA Development Agreement. This project is a game changer for the citizens and city of Rancho Cordova. The project will be anchored by a 7,500 seat multi use stadium., it will include a parking structure, at least two major hotels, a housing component and plenty of dining options, which are desperately needed in Rancho Cordova. big thanks to our longtime friend and development partners Josh Wood and Charlie Kaur Tiwana-Purwal for their vision, as well as their commitment to working with Our Union on delivering this monumental project.

Laborers Local staff and members showed out this morning to walk precincts for our longtime friend Mary Jane Griego who is running for Re-Election on the Olivehurst Public Utility District. The District has lots of infrastructure projects shovel ready, and we will need Mary’s steadfast leadership and community engagement to ensure these projects are built by local men and women from the building trades.

Steve P. Rados Laborers have been working on the North 5th Street Trunk Storm Drain project for the city of Sacramento. Our local members are wrapping up the installion of 1,400 LF of 72 inch Reinforce concrete pipe, as well as the precast junction structures.

Thank you to all who came out to last night’s Membership meeting. Special thanks to Congressman Mike Thompson, who came out prior to the meeting to visit with the retirees and the members. Congressman Thompson gave us our own personal update for current and upcoming projects in congressional district 4 including the sites reservoir! We were also able to honor longtime member and Training Center instructor John Cannon at yesterday’s meeting who completed the accelerated Apprenticeship program. The accelerated Apprenticeship program is our version of completing college at night while you’re working your career job. Great job brother Cannon!

Have you Graduated our construction craft laborer Apprenticeship Program? We need Skilled & Trained General Laborers willing to work in Tahoe. Granite construction was awarded the Tahoe Cedars Water System Reconstruction Project for Tahoe city Public utility District. The project is being built under a CMAR delivery method which has skilled and trained requirements. Last nights Retiree Rib & Chicken BBQ was a major success. Big that’s to David Stenson who owns and Operates Chi Town BBQ. We had 45 retirees attend. Most of them brought their plus one whether it was a spouse, Son, daughter, or sibling, nobody left hungry.

Local 185 members are busy reconstructing a long section of Big Chico Creek in Upper Bidwell Park. This project is being overseen by California Trout and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Services. Syblon Reid was selected for this daunting task because they have a history of “providing solutions to difficult projects”. Most of this has to do with the quality craftsmanship and grit that their laborers bring to every project. This project known as the Iron Canyon Fish passage project, will unlock miles of critical salmon habitat on big Chico Creek.
