Have you Graduated our construction craft laborer Apprenticeship Program? We need Skilled & Trained General Laborers willing to work in Tahoe. Granite construction was awarded the Tahoe Cedars Water System Reconstruction Project for Tahoe city Public utility District. The project is being built under a CMAR delivery method which has skilled and trained requirements. Last nights Retiree Rib & Chicken BBQ was a major success. Big that’s to David Stenson who owns and Operates Chi Town BBQ. We had 45 retirees attend. Most of them brought their plus one whether it was a spouse, Son, daughter, or sibling, nobody left hungry.

Local 185 members are busy reconstructing a long section of Big Chico Creek in Upper Bidwell Park. This project is being overseen by California Trout and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Services. Syblon Reid was selected for this daunting task because they have a history of “providing solutions to difficult projects”. Most of this has to do with the quality craftsmanship and grit that their laborers bring to every project. This project known as the Iron Canyon Fish passage project, will unlock miles of critical salmon habitat on big Chico Creek.

Big thanks to the members who came out to attend last night’s monthly membership meeting. Dr. Richard Pan our endorsed candidate for CA Congress District 6 was out prior to the start of the meeting to visit with the membership and to hear their concerns.

Jose Ventura and Oswaldo Martin are keeping busy working for McGuire & Hester on the Del Rio Trail Sewer rehabilitation project for the city of Sacramento. Business Representative Jaime Torres is also pictured here checking in with the membership.

Local 185 members have started work on a Large $48 million retrofit of Bryte Park for the City of West Sacramento. The project will transform the City’s largest park with a wide range of new amenities designed to serve residents of all ages, including: lighted soccer fields with an all-weather surface, new baseball and softball fields, a community pool and community room, splash pad, amphitheater, dog park, restrooms and concession building, lighted tennis courts, and a maintenance yard. Robert A Bothman is the general contractor on site performing a lot of the scope in-house with their skilled craft laborers. Local Sacramento based company Al’s Land Clearing is also on site.

Work has continued for our local membership on the I-80 Yuba Pass seperation overhead bridge project. Our local 185 members working for FlatiornDragados have been Demolishing the existing structure while widening the roadway with a new one. A large retaining wall is being added to the medium barrier. Our members are also replacing the outdated drainage system. Studebaker Electric has 185 members installing the electrical infrastructure needed support the lighting and highway signage, and CMC Traffic Control has Laborers performing the traffic Control along the On-ramps including our own Melinda Lovett.

Laborers Local 185 Leadership showed up to last nights Sacramento City council meeting to Advocate for the Creation of an Enhanced infrastructure financing district (EIFD) to install all the backbone infrastructure to support The CNU Hospital Our local membership will be building along either the rest of the Sacramento Sierra building and construction trades council affiliates. The hospital itself is over $1 billion of new construction work for our membership. The utilities and transportation amenities needed will be over $150 million. This project will provide local 185 membership jobs for many years to come. Big Thanks to our friend Lisa Kaplan in Sacramento District 1 along with our Mayor Kevin McCarty who have done a good job leading these efforts.

Laborers have been busy working for Drill Tech Drilling and Shoring and DeSilva Gates Construction on the Monte Vista pavement rehabilitation project for CalTrans District 3 on interstate 80 in Dutch flat.
