You did not open an independent practice to spend your evenings on HIPAA binders and OSHA checklists. But let one slip, and it becomes the thing that puts your practice at risk.

PAC's newest member benefit is built for exactly that gap. Through a new partnership with Healthcare Compliance Pros, members get discounted access to tools that carry the compliance load, from HIPAA and OSHA to the California-specific requirements that trip practices up, so your team can stay focused on patients.

Members get 20% off HCP's compliance solutions.

The best PAC & Forth episodes start with a real question: what's actually happening to independent practice in California, and what can be done about it.

Now we want to hear from you. Who belongs in the room next?

Maybe it's a physician doing work that deserves a bigger audience. Maybe it's someone writing the rules you practice under. Maybe it's a person who plays a pivotal role for private practices behind the scenes.

Drop a name in the comments or send us a message. We're lining up the next round of guests, and the best suggestions always come from the people closest to the work.

PAC was proud to sponsor last night's 2026 California Legislative Softball Game.

Proceeds from the game support youth sports programs in the community, a good reminder that friendly competition can do real good.

Thank you to everyone who came out to play, cheer, and give back.

Several bills PAC supports are in their final push before the legislative session ends on August 31.

Each bill cuts something that pulls physicians away from patients: prior authorizations that expire and have to be won again, claims denied over fixable defects, credentialing that adds paperwork without adding safety, and marketing that misleads patients about who is treating them.

Swipe to see which PAC-supported bills advanced and how they help independent physicians care for patients. 👉

"I would leave every day just feeling like I had failed all day long."

That is how Dr. Emilie Scott described the years before opening her own practice.

Care had become more about codes and billing than about patients. So in 2016, Dr. Scott made a different choice and opened an independent practice, built around a single question: what does it take to actually put patients first again?

The answer, and why this became her true purpose, is worth hearing firsthand.

As we are in the final stretch of the 2025-26 session, PAC continues fighting for California's independent physicians. Check out our full Legislative Update for the latest on our priority bills.

Beyond the Capitol, our July 23 Orange County reception brought together independent physicians and Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris for a great evening of networking and advocacy-building.

We're also excited to launch a new partnership with Healthcare Compliance Pros, offering PAC members exclusive discounts to ease compliance burdens.

PAC wasn't built in a boardroom.

Before PAC, plenty of associations existed for specialties and other groups, but none were asking one specific question: what do independent physicians actually need?

In this throwback to Episode 1 of PAC & Forth, CEO Matt Robinson shares how PAC came to be, not from the top down, but from focus groups with independent doctors across Sacramento, the Bay Area, and Southern California. What drives you? What are your pain points? What's missing from the associations you already know? They listened, and built the organization around the answers.

We built this from the physician's voice. That's still the mission, and it still takes physicians showing up to make it work.

Fifty years ago, physicians facing a crisis did something simple: they banded together.

In this clip from Episode 14 of PAC & Forth, Dan Cavanaugh of the Cooperative of American Physicians makes the case that independent doctors need to be better advocates for themselves by joining the organizations built to defend their interests and their patients'.

The pressures on private practice aren't new. Neither is the answer.

"You realize this is most doctors."

Going back to Episode 1 of PAC & Forth, where PAC Chair Dr. Omer Deen reflects on what he found when he started advocating for independent physicians: the frustrations he assumed were rare turned out to be nearly universal, reaching employed and academic physicians too, many of whom have nowhere to take them.

The conversation that kicked off the show, and it still holds up. Hear it in full: linktr.ee/PACDoctors

When health insurance costs spike, people don't just pay more. Some get squeezed out of care entirely.

In this clip from Episode 14 of PAC & Forth, Dan Cavanaugh of the Cooperative of American Physicians (CAP) connects the loss of health exchange subsidies to rising costs, and warns it could drive more Californians out of the system of care, the same problem MICRA was written to solve 50 years ago.

Access has always been the point. It still is.
