California State Parks is looking for a full-time State Park Interpreter I for the upcoming California Indian Heritage Center's Welcome Center scheduled to open in late fall. This is very exciting!

The job duties relate to educational programming, visitor admissions, and special events. Folks can apply for the position before they take the exam, but they need to have taken the exam by the time of their interview. Application filing deadline date is August 26, so act fast!

Hi everyone!

This is an update on the California Indian Heritage Center Phase 01 Welcome Plaza, which is currently under construction in West Sacramento. The photos below highlight the Groundbreaking Ceremony, recent construction progress, and a color rendering of the future shade structure.

Current Construction Status:

The contractor has completed rough grading of the site and is currently installing underground utilities. Over the next few weeks, construction will advance to the foundation phase for the shade structure.

May 7th is 𝘽𝙞𝙜 𝘿𝙖𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙂𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 across all California nonprofits and we'll be honored if you support the foundation as we get closer to realizing the California Indian Heritage Center. Just two weeks ago, tribal leaders broke ground on Phase 1 - the Welcome Center, which is expected to be completed by this fall.

The Center aims to be a place where all California Natives can “just be," in the words of California Indian Heritage Center Foundation Chairperson Larry Myers. Your support of the foundation empowers Native leaders from across the state to shape the Center to best fit the needs of California’s diverse peoples.

"Now, 175 years into California’s statehood, we can finally say that we are following through on a commitment to honor the First People of this place,” Christina Snider-Ashtari, California’s tribal affairs secretary, said recently.
