Calling all green school leaders and advocates!

The 2027 Green Schools Conference is still accepting session proposals and program reviewer applications for next year's conference, taking place February 8-10 in Austin, Texas!

This annual national event brings together educators, school leaders, building professionals, and advocates dedicated to creating sustainable, healthy learning environments, and they're looking for leaders to share how they're taking action in their communities.

U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC)

The Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is accepting applications for the 2026-2027 School Air Quality Fellowship. This program equips K-12 public school district staff to develop plans for cleaner, healthier indoor air and energy efficiency. The School Air Quality Fellowship offers personalized training and technical assistance, fully paid access to professional credentials, travel and attendance to the Green Schools Conference, and connection with peers.

School districts across the country are leveraging federal energy tax credits to create healthy, safe, and resilient school buildings with ground-source heat pumps. This spring, one school district in Wisconsin earned $4 million for installing them at a new school. A district in Minnesota earned $5.5 million for upgrades at two nearly century-old school buildings, while another in Texas earned more than $10 million.

In Michigan, clean energy in schools = jobs + healthier classrooms. A growing coalition of labor, educators, and advocates is pushing to modernize school buildings, creating good-paying union jobs while investing in students and communities.

🎉 California's SB 1048 (.Becker.ca), to establish a state Seal of Climate Literacy for high school graduates, cleared the Senate Education Committee with unanimous and bipartisan support!

This vote affirms the need to establish a credential that gives students access to relevant, career-oriented, hands-on learning experiences to prepare them to be leaders in the climate-changed future and economy they are inheriting.

California students want to be the next generation of climate leaders – we can provide the tools to make that happen. 🎓✨

This week Senator Josh Becker introduced the State Seal of Climate Literacy Act! If passed, high school students could earn a Seal of Climate Literacy on their diplomas by taking courses that integrate climate education and completing a hands-on learning project in their communities (think: apprenticeships, green space restoration projects, field research, art installations, and more).
