Troop 50G’s high adventure to Philmont Scout Ranch for a 7-day Cavalcade trek on horseback in the backcountry wilderness. We joined New Jersey Troop 336 to form Crew 625CV.
We learned how to saddle, ride, and pack our horses, as well as many other skills in the Philmont wilderness.
The Scouts did an amazing job waking up at 4:00am almost every morning packing our gear, the pack horses, saddling our horses and riding 3-4+ hours almost daily. We had one layover day.
We took the Southern trek from base camp to Miners Park, Beaubien, Crater Lake, Abreu, then back to Base Camp.

Troop 50G joined Troop 336 from Long Valley New Jersey for a Philmont Cavalcade. We came to Colorado Springs, CO and Cimmarron, NM to acclimate to the altitude. We hiked around Red Rock Open Space and saw a T-Rex print.
We worked on creek restoration and built dams.
We went on a trail ride today and met our horses for the trek - Crisco, Prime, Navajo Joe, Lieutenant Dan, Texas Roadhouse, Tapatío and Sticks.
We leave tomorrow for the trek!
