We are now at the peak of turtle nesting season. Field biologists from Awanata Turtle conduct weekly turtle nest surveys. On Monday, Dage and Ethan caught a glimpse of our bobcat. Furthermore, a new beaver dam has been discovered on the east side of Bushy Lake.

Turtle nest surveys at Bushy Lake. Red-Eared slider nest recently dug up by the predator, still had one egg in it. She must have just laid the eggs. We aren't seeing as many nests as we usually do, and because of the rate of predation in our experience out at Bushy Lake we have a pretty good baseline of what we should be seeing. Seeing. I wonder if it's because of the late spring rains being still pretty wet for nesting? Also, we were really surprised to see a new Beaver dam on the west side of the lake!

We went out to check on trail for the Sacramento Crosscountry Running Association future trails and fire breaks. We were relieved to see they are mostly outside of Bushy Lake Core area, although need to be sure turtle nesting isn't disrupted when they begin usually late March.
