Financial wellness starts with knowledge, confidence, and community!💙 💛 🧡 🩵

October is National Financial Planning Month and over the next few weeks we’re sharing a few highlights of our financial capability programs from throughout the year.

Earlier this year, residents at our Wong Center senior community participated in a Fraud Prevention and Bingo Workshop led by our partners at Patelco Credit Union. Through an engaging and interactive presentation, residents learned how to recognize common scams, protect their personal information, and take steps toward greater financial security.

The impact of this education was immediate! Following the workshop, one resident approached the Patelco Community Engagement Specialist onsite with a suspicious check, which was confirmed to be fraudulent. This moment was a powerful reminder of how access to financial education can help residents make informed decisions and protect themselves.

From fraud prevention to everyday financial wellness, these opportunities are about more than building financial knowledge. They're about empowering residents with the confidence and resources to navigate their financial futures.

Building new affordable housing is essential. So is preserving the homes we already have.

At Mutual Housing California, our commitment to residents doesn't end when construction is complete. Were continually looking for opportunities to reinvest in our existing communities, improve quality of life, and protect long-term affordability.

We're grateful for our continued partnership with the City of Davis as we take an important step toward rehabilitating three longtime Mutual Housing communities: Tremont Green, Twin Pines, and Moore Village.

The planned improvements will bring updated kitchens, flooring, roofing, heating and cooling systems, and more to residents' homes. Just as importantly, residents will return to their same apartments with no changes to their rent as a result of the renovations.

Thank you to the City of Davis for supporting this next chapter for these communities, and to The Davis Enterprise for highlighting what these investments will mean for residents.

Kari’s words capture so much of what resident leadership has looked like at Mutual Housing this year: building confidence, making connections, sharing perspectives, and stepping into new opportunities to lead. 💙

Throughout the year, residents have continued to grow their voices and leadership — from the launch of our first Resident Participation Advisory Council (RPAC) and welcoming two resident leaders to our Board of Directors, to meeting with state legislators, engaging neighbors across our communities, and participating in Residents United Network - RUN gatherings.

Most recently, the RUN Fall convening brought resident leaders together with advocates from all seven regions of California to exchange ideas, strengthen relationships, and build shared priorities.

As we reflect on this progress, we’re grateful to our partners at Housing California and RUN for creating opportunities for residents to learn from one another, build confidence, and strengthen their collective voice. And we celebrate our resident leaders for continuing to show up, speak up, and help shape the communities they call home. 🏡🗣️
