Our mission is simple but powerful: to foster a lifelong love of music, preserve womenโ€™s roles in jazz history, and create opportunities for the next generation of musicians.

๐–๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐–๐ž ๐ƒ๐จ
We provide mentorship, workshops, and performance opportunities designed to inspire girls to find their voice through music. By connecting young talent with experienced musicians and educators, we create a safe, inclusive space where creativity and confidence can grow.

๐–๐ก๐ฒ ๐ˆ๐ญ ๐Œ๐š๐ญ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ
Jazz and blues have always been powerful forms of expression โ€” yet womenโ€™s contributions are too often overlooked. Weโ€™re here to change that by celebrating female musicianship, supporting youth, and ensuring that the next generation of girls have the stage, spotlight, and recognition they deserve.

๐Ž๐ฎ๐ซ ๐•๐ข๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง
A world where every young girl feels seen, heard, and supported as she explores her passion for jazz and blues. From classrooms to concert halls, we believe in the transformative power of music to build confidence, leadership, and community.

Whether youโ€™re a musician, parent, educator, or supporter of the arts, thereโ€™s a place for you in our community. Together, we can preserve the legacy of jazz and blues while opening new doors for the future.

What does free music education take?

A room. Instruments. Music on the stands. People who can teach.

TGJBS does not charge families participation fees. The work behind that choice still needs support.

This is part of keeping jazz and blues education within reach in Sacramento.

Share this with someone who supports local music.

Picture a jazz teacher. Who comes to mind? ๐Ÿ’ฌ

92% of instrumental jazz faculty in the Jazz Counts higher-education sample were male-identified. Its data cover the 2021โ€“22 academic year across 222 institutions. This is a study of higher education.

For TGJBS in Sacramento the question is what girls can imagine for themselves. A student now may want to teach one day.

Playing the notes is one part of learning music.

Listening to another person and asking for help are critical for building musicianship. These are habits we want to encourage at TGJBS.

The pictures are from our 2026 Sacramento camp. The words are a small practice guide for families and teachers.

After the next practice try asking, "What would you like to try again?"

Save this for your next music conversation.

There is something different about playing with other people.

You listen for their part. They listen for yours. This photograph comes from TGJBS camp in Sacramento in 2026.

Our message to a girl who wants that company is simple. You do not have to be the only one.

Share this with a family whose daughter would like to make music with other girls.

Camp can be the start of a longer music conversation.

TGJBS Community Mentorship helps students explore what could come next. That can include lesson and instrument scholarships or guidance toward other music opportunities. Support depends on the student's needs, and we ensure guidance is individualized.

The photographs here are from 2026 camp. They illustrate the learning we want to help students continue.

Parents and carers can message MENTOR to ask about the next step.

What if your daughter thinks jazz is only for certain people?

It most definitely is not. And our incredible group of girls this summer proved exactly why everyone belongs in jazz. With a supportive community of other girls and women around, anything feels possible.

Share this with a parent whose daughter is curious about music but unsure where she fits.

What did girls jazz camp in Sacramento look like this summer?

There was time with teachers. Time to practice with a band. Time to sit and listen. Then a chance to play on stage.

These are photographs from our 2026 camp. They show the teaching and rehearsal behind the performance that culminated in a beautiful celebration of music-making on Saturday.

Share this with a family who would like to know TGJBS.

Here's a camp clip of our younger group learning beginner call and response โ€” led by guest artist Jessica Jones. ๐ŸŽท
Call and response in jazz is a fundamental technique of musical conversation; players alternate between phrases and matching responses in this exercise-a form of life-giving musicality to the genre. The girls practiced call and response in its entirety-hearing each other, matching tone, building trust, and discovering musical collaboration.

Itโ€™s the sweetest reminder that growth starts with simple steps, taken together. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿฅ
