🔴 Red pom-poms and tassels are characteristic elements of Iu Mien cultural attire, carrying both historical and protective meaning. Typically adorning clothing, infant hats, and accessories, these vibrant red forms are intended to disguise babies as flowers and protect them from ill-wishing spirits.

Our Lead Artist Nyingv Jae reimagines these ancestral motifs as a visual language rooted in personal history, exploring identity, memory, and the experiences of growing up in a refugee diaspora.

📿 “CRAFTING FOR COMMUNITY” EVENT 🧶

Come play with yarn + beads while exploring Iu Mien craft traditions! 🧵 Join artist Nyingv Jae Saechao for our upcoming creative workshop, exploring the Iu Mien art of pom-pom and tassel adornments as a contemporary craft. Attendees will hand-make their own pom-poms and tassels, then assemble them into one-of-a-kind keychains or bag charms, start to finish. No experience needed, just come curious and ready to create!

This ruling is a critical step toward ending mass surveillance, protecting privacy, and ensuring our communities are not profiled or treated as suspects in their own homes.

For AALN, this legal victory encompasses more than protection of electricity data; it reflects the kind of future we want for our communities. Today marks Lee Lo’s last official day with AALN, and our hearts are filled with infinite appreciation. 💛

We’re incredibly grateful for the mark Lee has left on this organization and on Sacramento’s Asian American community. It’s bittersweet to say goodbye to a chapter that has meant so much, but we’re choosing to celebrate all that has been—and all that’s still to come. Lee Lo, thank you for everything you’ve poured into this movement and into us. We’re so lucky to have been part of your journey, and we can’t wait to see where the next chapter takes you! 💐

💌 We are deeply grateful for Lee Lo’s 5.5 years of soft and fierce leadership, service, love, and vision as a co-founder and founding Executive Director of AALN!

Lee’s reimagination of AALN as a political home has shaped not only this organization, but the many people and communities who have discovered connection, courage, and possibility through this collective work.

As Lee concludes their time as Executive Director at the end of August, we honor all they have poured into AALN and the movement, and will carry forward the legacy of hope they leave with us. Thank you, Lee, for helping us dream and love our communities more boldly. 💛

Despite overwhelming community opposition, the Sacramento City Council voted to approve funding for the Central California Intelligence Center (CCIC) on July 21st—a decision deeply undermining the city’s recent commitments to upholding sanctuary policies.
