Rotary Club of Midtown-Sacramento

Rotary Club of Midtown-Sacramento We are the first evening Rotary Club in Sacramento, meeting online and every 3rd Thursday at SacYard. Midtown-Sacramento Rotary was chartered 23 years ago.

Consistent with our location in diverse Midtown, we welcome all, seeking comparable diversity in our membership in terms of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religious (or nonreligious) views, gender, and other such factors. Though small, our club has proudly distinguished itself as a service organization:

- All club members are Paul Harris Fellows, most several times over, and one is a Major

Donor. Our per capita annual giving to The Rotary Foundation is among the highest in the District.

- We are one of seven clubs which built and maintain Rotary House, a house near the U.C. Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, which provides long term housing, free of charge, for a child receiving medical treatment and his or her parent or caregiver.

- We annually donate some 80-100 dictionaries to second graders in a local public school.

- Monthly we do cleanup work on Midtown trees, removing ivy (which eventually will kill the trees).

- In partnership with the Midtown Business Association, we are sponsoring the first of a new program of painted murals in Midtown, to help revitalize the arts and the community.

- We have raised funds for reforestation and other projects in Latin America.

-We have held fundraisers for other Midtown organizations, such as Sacramento's LGBT Imperial Court, and volunteered as a club to assist with events raising money for HIV and AIDS awareness, and other community needs.

- We have sponsored students to Rotary Youth Leadership training, and held speech contests,

- Annually we raise money at our wine bus tour, our duck dinner, City Crush (a wine and food festival), and other events.

Urban League of Oak Park is running a school supply event tomorrow morning at Oak Park. It's the last event in our area for back to school because school starts Monday. So we gave them the 27 backpacks that we received from Target on Riverside. They were absolutely thrilled!

We are collecting more and will keep them until the end of our backpack drive on August 23. We’ll donate them to Wellspring Women's Center in Oak Park; they give backpacks out as needed to homeless and in-poverty youth all year.

Thanks and jolly good work! Urban League is going to fill them with school supplies and give them all away tomorrow morning!

For 14 years members of Midtown Rotary have TAKEN IT TO THE STREETS - to remove ivy from trees to save them from a slow and certain demise. Last Saturday the rain did not discourage us, as it helped keep the dust down from ripping off this ivy. We are proud of our crusade, and look fondly on those trees we’ve saved as we walk, bike and drive around Midtown. Paul, Greg and Ellie are happy.

Show us the CASH! Yesterday at our regular Thursday meeting at SacYard we passed the hat (well, actually buckets) and collected over $600 for back to school. Here are President Ellie and Karen at La Familia showing us the money. Besides our regular members, we had four prospective new members show up for this meeting. We have to do this more often!
