No volunteering is required - we'll take care of the food, logistics, and distribution. Your generosity makes it all possible.

How it works:
β€’ Choose your giving level: $500 or $1,000
β€’ Select your preferred site and date
β€’ We'll take care of the rest

Four years ago, Kira came to River City Food Bank with her family after they moved to the United States from Russia. Like many families starting over in a new country, they turned to RCFB for support and found not only healthy food, but also a welcoming community. πŸ’›

Today, Kira is a high school student - and she's come full circle.

This year, she chose to complete her internship at River City Food Bank, giving back to the organization that once helped her family. Throughout the school year, Kira has supported guests on the distribution line, helped with intake, and used her Russian language skills to ensure fellow community members feel comfortable, informed, and welcome.

She even organized a diaper drive and donated the collected items to support local families with young children.

Kira's story is a powerful reminder that when we invest in our neighbors, those neighbors often become the people who strengthen our community in return.

Thank you, Kira, for your compassion, hard work, and dedication to helping others. We're excited to see all that you'll accomplish in the future.

Get creative and help fight hunger this summer! πŸŽ¨πŸ’›

Color Me Mine Natomas is partnering with River City Food Bank for the 23rd Annual Empty Bowls fundraiser, and the community is invited to paint bowls that will be featured at this year's event on September 10, 2026, at the Sacramento Zoo.

From June 1 through August 13, stop by Color Me Mine Natomas Monday through Thursday and paint a bowl that will be donated to Empty Bowls. Each handmade bowl becomes a symbol of hope and a reminder of the neighbors in our community who still face food insecurity.

Here's how it works:
🎨 Pay one studio fee per bowl painted
πŸ₯£ Color Me Mine donates the bowl
✨ They glaze and fire your creation
πŸ’› Your finished bowl is donated to Empty Bowls
🎁 Receive a half-off studio fee coupon for a future visit

No reservations are required - just stop in and let the team know you're there to paint an Empty Bowls bowl.

Every bowl painted helps support River City Food Bank's mission of providing healthy groceries and CalFresh assistance to families and individuals throughout Sacramento County.

Cecilio and Rosa sat quietly in line early in the morning, waiting their turn.

They only speak Spanish - but thanks to another guest in line who stepped in to interpret, their story was able to be shared.

It's a powerful reminder that language should never be a barrier to receiving help, and that sometimes the people making the biggest difference are standing right beside us. Neighbors helping neighbors. πŸ’›

For years, Cecilio worked as a welder. It was hard, physical work, but it provided for their family.

Until one day, everything changed.

An injury led to surgery, leaving behind a long scar - and a new reality. Recovering later in life hasn't been easy, and the work he once relied on is no longer possible.

Now, despite his willingness to work, finding a job has become incredibly difficult.

So they come to River City Food Bank.

Not because they want to.
Because they need to.

They come to save money.
To stretch what they have.
To keep going.

And here, they're met with more than food. They're met with dignity, compassion, and respect.

Stories like Cecilio and Rosa's remind us why volunteers and community members who speak different languages are so important. A few translated words can help someone feel welcomed, understood, and connected during a difficult time.

That's what a safety net looks like. ❀️

Because of you, neighbors like Cecilio and Rosa have a place to turn when they need it most.

Take action for families with young children. πŸ’›

We are encouraged to share that a $16.5 million budget request for California diaper banks has been included in the Assembly's FY 2026–27 budget proposal. This is an important step forward - but the work isn't finished.

As state budget negotiations enter their final stages, support from the Senate and Governor is still needed to secure this critical funding before the budget is finalized on June 15.

Diapers are a basic necessity, yet many families struggle to afford them. Programs like diaper banks help parents and caregivers provide for their children while easing financial stress during difficult times.

We encourage you to contact your state legislators and ask them to support funding for diaper banks during final budget negotiations. Your voice can help ensure families across California continue to have access to this essential resource.

Together, we can advocate for a stronger safety net for children and families.

Summer is here, and so is SUN Bucks!

SUN Bucks is a summer food benefit program that helps eligible families buy groceries for their school-aged children when school meals are unavailable during summer break.

Many families will automatically receive SUN Bucks benefits, while others may need to apply. These benefits can help stretch household food budgets and ensure children continue to have access to healthy food throughout the summer months.

Not sure if your family qualifies? River City Food Bank's CalFresh Outreach team is here to help answer questions and connect you with available resources.

Help us spread the word so more families can access the support available to them this summer.
