We are located between Exhibit Buildings A and B. This is exhibit is a collaborative effort between multiple state and federal agencies. The U.S.

Camp Smokey was founded in the mid-1990’s as an educational opportunity to teach fire prevention and safety messages as well as environmental stewardship to California State Fair attendants. Camp Smokey is an interactive fire safety and education exhibit that is run through the duration of the California State Fair in Sacramento, CA. Folks have the opportunity to grab a passport from the Command P

ost and visit all six locations to learn about fire safety in the home as well as the forest. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Indian Affairs, CAL FIRE, and the Firefighters Burn Institute.

What do you know about fire prevention??

Each year high school students volunteer for Generation Green to learn leadership and public speaking skills.

Generation Green partners with Camp Smokey where students become the primary instructor for thousands of visitors young and old who receive fire prevention and life safety messages in an interactive way.

Each year, the memorial honoring all Wildland Firefighters next to the Camp Smokey Command Post receives a beautiful addition of fresh cut flowers donated by the California Association of Flower Growers and Shippers booth located in the B building at the California State Fair. This years arrangement was provided by Gina at Flora Fresh. Thank you Gina!

🐻 🐻 Collectable Camp Smokey bandana… QUILT??

Opening day of the California State Fair and Camp Smokey is off to a great start.

Long time volunteers, Ernie and Roxy (typically seen in Sparky’s House) hosted by Firefighters Burn Institute presented the Camp Smokey Committee members with this handmade quilt. The quilt is made of the highly saught after collectable bandanas you can earn when you use your passport and complete all 6 stations.

We love the gift but more importantly we love the time Ernie and Roxy have dedicated over the years educating thousands of visitors about fire prevention and safety! ❤️❤️

Do you recognize any of these locations at the California State Fair? Set up continues at Camp Smokey and we even had professional tree climbers from TreeCircus assist us in light pruning of the trees and installation of the shade canopies, THANKS GUYS! By tomorrow at opening, we will be ready for you to start your fire safety adventure at the command post and make your way through all 6 areas then meet Smokey Bear 🐻! Stop by each day between buildings A and B , we can’t wait to see you!

Camp Smokey returns July 17–Aug. 2 at Cal Expo with hands-on lessons about wildfire prevention, home fire safety, responsible recreation, and how fire plays a role in California’s natural landscapes.

Bring the family, meet Smokey Bear Bear, pick up a Camp Smokey passport, and learn simple steps that can help keep your home, community, and California safe.
