⚽️ Looking for ways to get your kids active this year?

Since 1971, the has been building community through youth soccer in Sacramento! As the city’s oldest youth soccer club, BAC proudly serves the College Glen neighborhood, playing their games at Oki Park. May is Bike Month and Wednesday, May 20 is ! We're halfway through the month, but not too late to make an impact.

The average car trip to run errands is 1-3 miles. This is a distance perfect for cycling and could be as simple as riding to Raley's to grab that last item you forgot to buy, riding to our Bark in the Park event on May 30 at Glenbrook Park, or riding from Watt Avenue to Howe Avenue along the American River Bike trail. These short distances on bikes help reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality, and lower greenhouse gas emissions.

The Oki Park corridor has come a long way in the last few weeks!

You might not see it from the street or from the park. Across the street from the Oki Park soccer field and behind the temporary fence, neighbors, volunteers and the folks from NorCal Resist have been working hard on the Seeds of Solidarity mutual aid farm.

If you're able to help, workdays are scheduled for Thursdays and Sundays through early June:
🌱Thursdays May 21, 28 and June 4
🌱 Sundays May 24, 31 and June 7

All are welcome!

Celebrating Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month with some history about our beloved Oki Park.

From Hiroshima to Sacramento, Magoichi Oki helped shape both the landscape and the Japanese American story in California. After arriving in America in 1897 and working on the railroad near Fresno, he built what would become Oki Nursery — a family business that served orchard growers for decades and helped Sacramento bloom through the donation of Japanese flowering cherry trees to parks like Capitol Park and William Land Park. 🌸
Oki’s life reflected resilience, community, and legacy. A pioneer in California’s nursery industry, a leader among Japanese American growers, and a longtime member of the Sacramento Buddhist Church, his impact stretched far beyond business. Today, his name lives on through Oki Park, right here in College Glen, and through the trees, neighborhoods, and community roots he and his family after him helped cultivate across Sacramento.
