A MESSAGE TO MY FRIENDS ACROSS THE CAL-NEV-HA DISTRICT


I'm writing to let you know that I recently withdrew my candidacy for 2023-2024 Cal-Nev-Ha Governor-Elect. Other than the sadness that comes with disappointing loyal supporters and teammates, let me assure you that both Rita and I are fine, mentally and physically.

While several personal factors have influenced this decision, at its essence, it comes down to competing Kiwanis priorities. I have found it increasingly difficult to regard pursuit of the Governor’s office as the greatest need for my Kiwanis service. Our home clubs and home division need us. We also have important contributions to make to local and regional committees and initiatives. Last year’s campaign pulled us away from these and from our ongoing Circle K advisory work which, for me, has been the most difficult disconnect to reconcile.

In short, priorities often shift, and the path to the greater good now runs in a different direction than it did a year ago. Rita and I value all of you who walked the path with us last year more than you will ever know. To you, we say a heartfelt 'thank you'. We hope you will continue to walk beside us on this new, different path for our Kiwanis service.

This week, Dan and Gary of the Kiwanis Club of East Sacramento put together one of four therapeutic tricycles that the club will be donating to children with special needs in the local community. East Sacramento Kiwanis has partnered with NorCal Trykers for this project over the past several years, donating more than a dozen trykes at a cost of approximately $1,200 each. These trykes are fitted and customized for each child and take several hours to assemble.

Once the club completes building the remaining trykes, they’ll be delivered to the children and their families. We can’t wait to see the smiles on their faces!
