We are the official nonprofit of the Front Street Animal Shelter, raising private resources and donations to support the many programs and activities that save the lives of animals in need.

Today is National Dog Day, and we think that’s something worth celebrating 🐶 Did you know that one of our programs is providing financial assistance to some of the 501(c)(3) rescues who pull dogs from Front Street Animal Shelter - City of Sacramento into their program? So far in 2026, 114 dogs have gone to rescue!

Whether the dogs went to rescue for specialized care or to help them get seen by a different audience of adopters, we’re so grateful for all of the rescues that pull animals from Front Street! We’re also incredibly grateful to all the staff and volunteers at the shelter who made it possible. From communicating with rescues to writing bios to taking photos and videos, it takes a coordinated effort by so many amazing people to make this happen.

Enjoy these photos of some cute pups who’ve gone to rescue this year 🐾

Olaf - Jailbreak Husky Rescue
Luna - Snake River Animal Shelter
Amina - Blue-Collar Dog Rescue
Chico - Howard's Hound Haven
Lucy - California Bully Rescue

We’re so excited about taking over this regularly scheduled trivia night to share how your donations help animals in the Sacramento community, and the people who love them.

The only thing we’re happier about than trivia at Nitty’s is the future of Friends of Front Street Shelter!
Tonight several board members got together with our families to participate in trivia and while we didn’t win, we had so much fun.
😻Mark your calendars, join us there in three weeks for Cinco de Meow! 😻

Sometimes it takes a village and a miracle. Larry, a sweet gentleman who loves walks, cuddles and car rides, was out of time at the shelter with no options. Then Volunteer Melanie stepped up as a foster and FRIENDS paid for his torn ACL to be repaired through their specialty orthopedic program for Front Street dogs. Guess what - besides being saved and fixed, he landed in a home with a swimming pool, perfect for his rehab! friendsoffrontstreet.org
