A repeat of a wonderful article with a photo of wonderful Mila and her grandmother Suzanne!

Two Generations of Johnson Women Helping the Food Pantry
I recently sat down with Mila Johnson, age 8, a rising third grader who graduated from the Governor John Fairfield School in S**o and Suzanne Johnson, Mila's grandmother, who volunteers for the S**o Food Pantry.
Mila got the idea of having a lemonade stand outside her home on a weekend with her friend, Laiken, age 9. Mila was inspired to donate the entire proceeds of her lemonade sales to the Food Pantry because: "I thought about people who don't have any money to buy food. We could give our money to the Food Pantry to help them out."
Suzanne Johnson, Mila's grandmother, volunteers every Tuesday at the front desk checking in new and returning clients. A recently retired paralegal in the commercial real estate industry, Suzanne was looking for things to do in her retirement a couple of years ago. She was walking out of Shaw's Supermarket on a day when the pantry was having a food drive, and she signed up to volunteer. That was two years ago!
So far, Mila has raised and donated $20.25 and $15.00 in two different days of serving lemonade. And she's not done yet! Mila said that she hopes to host another lemonade stand this summer to raise more money for the pantry.
In her spare time, Mila likes to have play dates with friends. She plays board games with her family. And, she is attending cheerleading camp
this summer. This young woman and her grandmother are an inspiration
to all of us working to end food insecurity and hunger in our community. We are honored to have you, Mila and Suzanne, as volunteers and donors to our cause. Thank you!

Thank you to Age Friendly S**o!

In 2026, Age Friendly S**o continues its mission to ensure our community remains a safe, supportive, and welcoming place for every resident, regardless of age or background. We understand that recent local events have caused some of our neighbors to feel uneasy or unsafe leaving their homes, even for essential needs like food.

No one in our community should have to go hungry due to fear or discomfort. While our primary focus is supporting our older population, we recognize that we are a stronger community when we look out for all neighbors.

We are here to help.

If you or someone you know currently feels uncomfortable visiting the food pantry, Age Friendly S**o is extending a food pantry delivery service for S**o residents to ensure you have the resources you need.

Compassionate & Confidential: Our goal is your well-being.
Open to All: We are dedicated to making S**o a safe place for everyone.
Contact Us: To coordinate a delivery or for more information, please call our office at 207-494-8662.
We care about this community, and we are in this together.
