Winter Blanket Drive! Help Us Keep Our Community Warm!

As winter approaches, we’re looking to build another blanket collection to help miniature equines in our community stay warm and comfortable!

We know that times can be tough, and sometimes an unexpected expense can make the basics difficult to afford. We’d love to have another supply of blankets on hand so that when a local horse owner needs a little help, we can offer a warm blanket without adding to their financial worries.

We’re collecting new and gently used miniature horse and pony blankets in a variety of sizes. Donated blankets MUST be clean and in good condition, with working straps and buckles and no tears or damage. Unfortunately, we cannot accept dirty or damaged blankets.

Have a blanket tucked away that your mini has outgrown or no longer needs? We’d love to give it a second life helping another little equine!

Rigatoni the pony & Ragu the mini donkey are healing wonderfully from their castration surgeries. We are so unbelievably appreciative of our amazing village for coming together to ensure the next chapter for these boys is bright.

A big, big update for Rigatoni the pony & Ragu the mini donkey.

They received their vaccine boosters, were gelded, AND had their hooves trimmed for what we believe is the first time in a long time.

Getting these things addressed is another important step toward getting them healthy, comfortable, and back on a proper care schedule.

And yes, they’re both a little lighter now. ✂️🏀🏀

Tomorrow is a big, big day for Rigatoni the pony & Ragu the mini donkey. They’ll receive their vaccine boosters AND undergo procedures that will leave them a little lighter than before. ✂️🏀🏀

We like to call it “brain surgery.” Technically, the vet is removing their testicles, but this surgery always puts the brain back in charge.

They’ll both be gelded which is an important step for their long-term health and welfare. Along with preventing breeding, gelding can reduce hormone driven behaviors and make handling, training, and living with other equines safer and easier.

Two perfect little angels available for adoption through Save Your Ass Long Ear Rescue.

Albert and Josephine are STILL looking for the right home! These two are 20-year-old bonded miniature donkeys, but you would never guess their age by looking at them! They are both spry, happy, and have many wonderful years ahead of them to love and be loved. They are just as sweet as they are cute, and this adorable pair would love to find a family of their very own.

Albert and Josephine are wonderful to halter, handle, and brush, and they lead well, too! According to their previous owner, they have even participated in parades. Both donkeys are great with children and are gentle when taking treats from little hands.

They are up to date on their vaccinations, dental exams, hoof care, and veterinary care, and they are ready to find their forever home.

These two sweethearts have so much love to give and would be thrilled to have their own people to love and care for them. ❤️

Fall is a favorite season for so many people. But for horses and donkeys, some of what comes with it can be dangerous, even deadly.

Here’s Chris clearing fallen leaves from the paddock. We do this every morning during leaf season before turnout to reduce exposure to potentially toxic leaves.

Fall risks for equines:

🍁 Wilted or dried red maple leaves can damage horses’ red blood cells and cause fatal poisoning. Red maple is a specific tree species, not any maple with red fall foliage.

🌰 Acorns and oak leaves can cause digestive problems and kidney damage when eaten in quantity. Green, unripe acorns are especially concerning.

🌿 Wilted cherry leaves, including those on broken or fallen branches, can cause fatal cyanide poisoning.

❄️ Cold nights and frost can increase sugar levels in pasture grass, raising the risk of laminitis which is a serious, painful hoof condition.

💧 Reduced water intake in colder weather can increase the risk of impaction colic, a blockage in the digestive tract.

Be sure while you are enjoying the best season to also take the time to ensure the health and safety of your equine friends.
