Friends of Rye Sustainability Committee The Rye Sustainability Foundation is dedicated to promoting sustainability through education, local initiatives and strategic partnerships.

We help protect natural spaces, plant native trees and pollinators, reduce waste, and transition to clean energy. The Rye Sustainability Committee is a ten-member group of volunteers tasked by the City of Rye's City Council to implement the Rye Sustainability Plan and address significant environmental issues in our community. Rye's unique position as one of Westchester County's most desirable com

munities depends on its citizens - with the guidance of the RSC - to preserve its open spaces, maintain a clean and attractive shoreline, and promote a healthy environment; all while ensuring economic growth.

Good news!! New York City has launched a first-of-its-kind EV charging station in the city — a station under a solar canopy at a public school on Staten Island, combining on-site renewable power with routine fleet charging (six Level 2 chargers) in a setup that could lower costs, cut pollution, and strengthen city operations. It’s the first in its five borough pilot program to integrate solar charging canopies across city-controlled parking lots.

CONGRATULATIONS to our Rye Sustainability Committee member Jeff Prosserman, Co-Founder and CEO of Voltpost!! Voltpost, the leading lamppost electric vehicle (EV) charging company, today announced the deployment of their pole-mounted Level 2 EV chargers in the Village of Larchmont, New York. The deployments will begin in Larchmont, with near-term plans to expand to Yonkers and Rye, with interest from additional Westchester County municipalities. By converting existing lampposts and utility poles into EV charging stations, Voltpost can deploy infrastructure in a matter of hours, at a fraction of the cost and footprint of traditional charging stations, without requiring new construction, added real estate, or lengthy permitting timelines.

The 2025 round of the DEC Municipal ZEV Rebate Program provided awards to 14 municipalities to support the purchase or lease of 55 battery vehicles totaling more than $400,000. As part of the 2025 round of the ZEV Infrastructure Grant Program, DEC provided 36 grants totaling more than $3.6 million for 74 Level 2 electric vehicle charging ports and 24 fast chargers to 23 municipalities across the state. Kudos to these strong women!! Old Ladies Against Underwater Garbage The group cleans about 20 ponds a year on Cape Cod. Members have to be at least 64, and they say the group has reshaped their lives. To date, the women estimate they’ve hauled out about 6,000 pounds of trash.
