Now that school is back in session, we are excited to hear from Kim B. Ransom, M.Ed, and Miranda Burton, PLACE (Promoting Learning by Activating Community Engagement) Internship Coordinators at Rutland High School.

Here is some background on Kim. She currently resides in Bomoseen, Vermont. She has dedicated 24 years to teaching Work-Based Learning, career education, and finance. Kim is currently teaching at Rutland High School, teaching PLACE Internship Program and Finance. Before she became an educator, she worked in the banking, management, real estate fields. Kim enjoys sharing my professional knowledge and real-world experiences with all of her students. Her “why” is empowering students with the skills and confidence they need to build bright futures.

Her is some background on Miranda. She currently Resides, Rutland, VT. She serves as the new Internship Coordinator at Rutland High School and also teaches Career Exploration classes.
She brings a high level of organization, professionalism, and attention to detail to her role.

Miranda has strong communication and beautiful positive relationships with students. Before joining Rutland High School, she worked as a Special Educator at Rutland Intermediate School.

Our outbound Rotary Exchange student, Amy Mora, will be heading to Romania next month. It was our great pleasure to donate $2600 to Amy for her expenses. This will be a life changing experience for Amy. We all wish her safe travels as she embarks on this incredible adventure.

Rutland South Rotary Club is pleased and proud to support the pivotal work of Habitat For Humanity of Rutland County - VT. This evening we joined many community members to celebrate the ribbon cutting of their newly built model home. This single family one bath/one bedroom home was actually constructed in Habitat’s on site panelization workshop. Check out the photos. Congratulations to Rebekah Stevens and her amazing team for helping to create affordable housing within Rutland County.

Shelley Lutz, Secretary & Treasurer of the Pine Hill Partnership, will be our guest speaker on August 20. The title of her presentation is “Pine Hill Park”. An avid mountain biker, Shelley has shared her knowledge and passion for this sport by volunteering for the Rutland Recreation and Pine Hill Partnership for 20 years. She has oversees the volunteer groups and maintenance of the trail system in Pine Hill Park, Redfield Trails, and the Carriage Trail.

Shelley helps with the Gritty Girls Program run by volunteers in conjunction with the Rec Department which gets girls in grades 4-8 on mountain bikes. In addition she started the women's mountain bike clinic and assisted in getting the youth mountain bike group started 18 years ago.

She grew up in Western, NY, went to VTSU Castleton and never left the area. Shelly also worked at UPS for 36 years.

Big day for Rutland South Rotary and the The Paramount Theatre. Rutland South Rotary Club will be donating $7500 a year for the next 3 years to support their KidTix program, which will help to bring between 300-500 youth from across the Rutland Region to the Paramount each season at little or no cost to parents and guardians.

We love supporting our Rotary Exchange students any way we can. Today, RSR Prez Nancy Cristelli accompanied by Mr Rutland South Rotary,Roger Louiselle, stopped by the Wooden Barrel in Chittenden for a good truck fundraiser with all proceeds benefiting our outbound exchange student Emyii Mora who will be traveling to Romania this fall. I bet the food was delish right guys?

We were so pleased to be joined this morning by our distinguished Rotary District 7870 -- NH, VT Governor Ruth Clough. She is visiting rotary’s in our district in NH and Vt to learn more about their various projects and fundraising encouraging more collaboration between clubs.

Ruth is holding a children’s book, “Weaver and the Web” by Chris Baker that she has autographed and will be donating in her name to the Rutland Free Library. We do this with all of our guest speakers as a way of promoting literacy in our community.

This Thursday we are honored to have our esteemed Rotary District 7870 -- NH, VT District Governor Ruth Clough, join us as our featured speaker.

Here is some background:
She was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. Attended Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland State University as an undergraduate. She graduated from Ohio State University School of Law, and moved to Vermont in 1989.

She established her own general law practice in 1990 in Bethel, Vermont doing predominately real estate law. Since 1994, Ruth has also worked under a contract with the State of Vermont
representing abused, neglected and delinquent kids and their families.

Ruth Joined Bethel Rotary in 1995 and is now currently a member of the Killington Pico Rotary

We have an "old" friend presenting to us this Thursday. Corissa Burnell, Co-Executive Director of the Rutland County Parent Child Center (RCPCC).

Corissa Burnell oversees the organization's daily operations while leading the development of innovative, inclusive, and transformative programming that strengthens children, families, and the broader community. Through strategic leadership, collaborative partnerships, and a commitment to whole-family success, she works to ensure RCPCC continues to meet the evolving needs of Rutland County.

With a career spanning child welfare, family support, healthcare, and nonprofit leadership, Corissa has dedicated herself to creating practical, community-driven solutions that improve outcomes for Vermont families. Her professional experience includes leadership and service positions with Rutland Mental Health, Rutland Regional Medical Center, Windsor County Youth Services, Prevent Child Abuse Vermont, and most currently the Rutland County Parent Child Center for the last 8 years.

Throughout her career, Corissa has championed initiatives that remove barriers to essential services while promoting family stability, early childhood development, and parent engagement. She has led the expansion of innovative programs such as the Pleasant Street Market, a grocery store-style food pantry that provides families with a dignified and accessible shopping experience, and has been instrumental in developing RCPCC's 2Gen Campus, an integrated community hub that supports both children and caregivers through a coordinated, whole-family approach.

A passionate advocate for father engagement, Corissa has also advanced fatherhood initiatives throughout Rutland County, recognizing the critical role fathers play in building strong, resilient families. Her commitment to a whole-family model ensures that parents, caregivers, and children receive the support they need to thrive together.

Corissa is passionate about strengthening communities through strategic partnerships, grant development, community engagement, and expanding access to resources for all families, regardless of income or circumstance. She believes lasting change is achieved when nonprofits, businesses, government agencies, and community members work together to create opportunities that empower families and build healthier communities.

Outside of her professional role, Corissa enjoys combining her passion for child development with athletics by coaching youth Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. A purple belt herself, she trains in both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and mixed martial arts (MMA) three days a week. She lives in Rutland, Vermont, with her husband of more than 20 years, and together they have three children.
