POW/MIA RECOGNITION DAY OBSERVED ANNUALLY · THIRD FRIDAY OF SEPTEMBER

The only official national day of observance dedicated entirely to honoring Americans who were prisoners of war or remain missing and unaccounted for - from all conflicts, in all theaters, and from every branch of service.

Rutland Post 310 American Legion members conducted the traditional "Table Set For One Ceremony" to honor all MIA/ POW who were prisoners of war or remain missing and unaccounted for, at our September Monthly meeting on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

Please join the members of Rutland Post #310 American Legion in extending congratulations to Jim Campbell on his election to Post Adjutant. Jim has accepted this critical role as the primary administrative officer and operational anchor of our post. While the Post Commander provides executive and inspirational leadership, the Adjutant functions as the engineer who keeps the daily machinery running. Jim’s duties as Post Adjutant include: Membership Management, Compliance and Records, acting as the Communication Hub, managing official correspondence, publishing announcements, and serving as the bridge of communication between individual members, local leadership, and higher-level Legion organizations. What a privilege this afternoon to attend the birthday celebration of a Korean War veteran, CPL Joseph Rovezzi with Nick Charette from the Executive Office of Veterans Services, state Senator Peter Durant, Scott Connor, Rutland Veterans Service Officer, and 1st Sgt Steve Winters, Commander of American Legion Post 310 in Rutland. Joe enlisted in the Army in 1950 and deployed to Korea. During the conflict, Joe was taken prisoner and held for two years before being repatriated in 1953 after the armistice was signed. Joe is celebrating his 100th birthday this year and we presented him with a citation from Governor Healey, a citation from Secretary Goralnick, a citation from the Massachusetts Senate, a citation from the American Legion national commander, and a citation from Post 310. Joe also received challenge coins from Governor Healey, Secretary Goralnick, and my coin from my tenure as the State Command Sergeant Major. We asked Joe what his secret was to living so long and he replied that there is no secret, just live your best life! Happy 100th birthday Joe and thank you for your service to the nation!!

In recognition of Chase Smith’s outstanding service as Rutland American Legion Post 310’s Adjutant, Post Commander Tom Ruchala presents Chase with a Certificate of Appreciation at the June 17th Legion meeting. Chase will be moving to Florida in July. His leadership will be sorely missed by the entire Post membership. Good luck Chase in your future endeavors.

Today, members of Rutland American Legion Post 310 were honored to be joined by Scouts and leaders from Rutland Troop 141 as we placed flags on the graves of our fallen heroes at Rutland Rural Cemetery.

We are proud to stand alongside the next generation in this meaningful act of remembrance. Their dedication to service and respect for our veterans ensures that the legacy of those who served will never be forgotten. 🇺🇸
