Friends of the Ware River Watershed We are MA residents who believe the DCR will benefit by partnering with caring local citizens who regularly access the 25,000 acre Ware River Watershed.

The Friends of the Ware River Watershed (FWRW) are citizens of Massachusetts who believe that the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will benefit in numerous ways by partnering with passionate and caring local citizens who regularly access the 25,000 acre Ware River Watershed (WRW) in the towns of Barre, Hubbardston, Oakham, Petersham, Phillipston and Rutland. Our Friends Group missio

n is to balance responsible recreation with the primary purpose of the Watershed: water supply protection. Our goals include:

1) Helping to balance sustainable trail access for non-motorized trail users in the WRW while insuring that water purity is not compromised

2) Trail stewardship and maintenance

3) Assisting with monitoring the WRW for unauthorized activity (i.e. illegal dumping)

4) Education and outreach on protecting the cultural, environmental and historic resources found within WRW through partnerships with other local and regional groups

Huge thanks to 14 multi-user group volunteers plus 2 DCR watershed foresters (one with son along too) giving us gate access and hands-on cleaning up trails, tools trailer from Wachusett NEMBA, followed by pizza feast courtesy AMC, what a day! Got all the logging impacts buffed out, and big swaths of much needed pruning on the following trails: Turner (BBum), Midstate/Blood Swamp, Narramore Children (T8), Oakhampton, White Pine, Pitch Pine, and the top of Red Pine.

Hi folks, we got word today from DCR-DWSP that the planned logging that will impact the White Pine, Pitch Pine, and Red Pine trio of trails has started today and signs are up. Here's the map showing the area of the cut (in yellow'ish) and the landing/entry point will be at the yellow dot on Pine Plains Rd. We don't have full clarity on the duration, since it's up to the logger, but we'll pass along the updates we hear.
